Default algae equilibrium (green thick back bacopa)

All tanks have algae, to some extent. I probably have more algae than
folks with the really good planted tanks, CO2 injection and all that.
But I usually have it at a moderate and tolerable level.

I while back, I decided to kill all of the green beard algae on my bog
wood, which had grown a thick coat of it. I did so successfully, by
boiling it.

Not long after that, I got a nasty outbreak of hair or staghorn algae
that completely choked out my bacopa, and was threatening the sword.

Solution - the removal of the hopeless bacopa (and half the sword
leaves) and regrowth of the beard algae.

Sure, I'd rather have enough plant growth that algae doesn't take
anything over, the log, the other plants, etc. But I have an uneasy
truce with the enemy. Now if I can get my sword plant nice and thick
again...

Cheers,

B

Focus on the needs of the plant, you don't have algae issues, truces
etc.

The goal is to grow plants, so set out to do just that.

It does not require CO2, extra work etc either.

Non CO2 tanks and using Excel is fairly easy.
