Hi everyone,

I just noticed that one of my black neon tetras is swimming strangely.
I have 7 total, and the rest seem fine. The tank water quality is good
as far as I can tell.. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite. Is this a swim bladder
infection? The neon swims at a 45 degree angle upwards, and seems to
sink if it doesn't swim. Could I have overfed it? Is it going to die
or does it have some contageous disease? I don't have a quarantine
tank, and would like to know how to deal with this. First time dealing
with strange behaviour, and I'm sure it won't be my last.

Sure could be.


I don't have a quarantine tank so I created a quarentine bucket.
Put in tank water, rocks or plastic plant & air stone and a filter
if you have a spare. -- just a thought.

I'm on the newbie side of this hobby too so I definately defer to
other's experience here.

Buy a livebearer floating breeding trap for the Neon (or float a large
bowl in the tank). It can relax at the bottom, and if it dies, it will
not be ingested by the others (possibly spreading diseases). If it
over-ate, then recovery typically takes about 4 hours, however you would
probably expect to see similar behaviour from the other fish to lesser
degrees if that was the case.
