6, is the general number of loaches, unless you are going for color.
any other fish is fine, they are great community fish
it is impressive how old your loaches are!!! )))
mine only lasted for 1 yr!

There are a wide number of choices available. I recommend that whatever
you decide on, quarantine them for a few weeks before introducing them to
your main tank. Your loach's immune systems have not had much to do in a
long time, so IMO new tank-mates will pose a significant health risk.

I also have 2 clown loaches that I got in 1992 who live in a 60g show tank
built into my office wall. They are absolutely no problem with any of the
fish I've had in the tank. Right now there are 2 kissing gouramis, 2 silver
spotted catfish, 2 silver dollars, 2 green severums and one unidentified
half orange and half silver beast. All the fish are approximately 11 years
old except the gourami who is 8 years old.

You should stay away from all aggressive fishes such as a Jack Demseys.

PS. I know a couple of guys that have clown loaches approaching 22 years so
you've got a couple of pals for some time yet.
