This evening my nephew came over and had a field day using my Mag-Float
aquarium cleaner. The result of gravel and sand and the Mag-Float --
scratches all over the interior of the 55 gallon glass fish tank.
Yikes! Is there anything I can do to remedy the situation? Would
emptying the tank and using Brasso or another abrasive on the glass
work?
What I did was easier, I made the scratched side the back.

Scratched Glass Fish Tank (glass)
You really need some cerium oxide - Brasso etc is unlikely to touch it. When
I used it on mine it took a fair while to get the scratches out working with
a power drill. Safest is with the tank on its side on a carpeted floor, that
way you can apply more pressure without fear of breaking the tank. You do
need to watch the heat build up though & keep it nice & wet while you do it.
If you are in the UK then http://www.screwfix.com sell a glass polishing kit for
about £20

Now armed with plenty of experience with using cerium oxide for polishing
glass, my advice is to turn the tank around.

Last but not least, replace the scratched section of glass.
