Slate shale? (pretty glass)

I can never get these 2 straight? One is pretty hard, the other is very
flaky to the touch. Are they both OK for the average aquarium?

Slate is the hard stuff, shale crumbles in layers. I wouldn't recommend
shale, not because of any effects it may have on the water, but because of
the likelyhood of injury. Broken shale is extremely sharp. levittd
