Default WTB - Heater with separated thermostat (heater night glass)

Cay one still obtain aquarium heater like the ones I used as a kid? The
heater was in one glass tube, and the thermostat in another, to be
placed at opposite ends of the tank

I'm getting lousy temperature control from the single piece unit I
bought for the family 5 gallon tank. With the night-day room temperature
swings in our kitchen here in New England the single piece units I've
tried won't hack it. I know I could make one out of a pair of single
tube units, but buying one would be easier.

BTW, if you can't answer the question posed, don't waste bandwith
telling me to improve the water circulation or get a bigger heater, that
won't solve the problem. I'm a control system engineer, and I know the
cause of the poor performance is the low loop gain caused by having the
thermostat so closely coupled to the heater. The fact that manufacturers
of single tube heaters put disclaimers in their instructions is proof
that they won't hold tank temperature within a 2-3 degrees when the room
temperature swings from 62F to 75F.

Thanks guys,

Jeff

I actually just got a heater like you described, its made by WON its a PRO
HEAT heater. I got the titanium heater because i got sick of the glass ones
breaking. The heaters temp control is located at the plug, and the
thermostat runs its own wire to the tank. it ran about the same price as
other heaters at my lfs. This unit comes in varing wattage from 50w to
1000w.

hope this helps

I second this post. I have 2 Won heaters and they are both DEAD accurate
(within 1 degree at all times) I will definately be buying more of them in
the future when the rest of my glass ones break.
