Still Having Problems Finding A skimmer (pretty back)
A few months back several of you replied to a post I made asking for skimmer
recommendations, and the majority recommended ASM, Aqua C, or Euro Reef. All these appear to be in-sump designs. Because I bought a wet-dry system (which will now only be used as a sump) when I bought the tank, I don't believe I will have the space to use an in-sump skimmer. I'm pretty sure I will be forced to use an external skimmer. Therefore: What brands can anyone recommend for external use? Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with skimmers from http://www.myreefcreations.com They have been recommended to me, but they use something called a Beckett Injector instead of a needle wheel, and I can't find any information on this technology. Can anyone give me some help? I'm not going to quibble about the cost, since this is such an important piece of the system...I just want something that works well that is an external design. BTW...why are the in-sump designs so popular? Are there certain advantages to this? Thanks and Merry Christmas! Tim |

Aqua C Remora Pro with a Mag 3 drive AWESOME !!!
Just got one. It's not even done breaking in yet and is killing my other Seaclone skimmer. I got it from these guys, they have the best price I can find. http://www.marineandreef.com/shoppro/protein_skimmers_aquac.htm I got the extra drain fitting so I can run a hose to the sink drain... |

Hate to say it, but a fully inflated ballon submerged in the tank with
a pin hole leak so it makes a zillion bubbles is a far cry better than any Seaclone skimmer could dream of being....so it sure does not take much to beat a "SEACLOWN" skimmer, even the Red Sea prizm and the el cheapo JEBOs run circles around seaclones.......Its pityfull too, since the company that makes them has very good other products, and one would expect the same out of a skimmer they put their name on. Unfortunately not. YES !!!
It is certainly a SEACLOWN. I've read the wetwebmedia reviews. I believe they called the Seaclown a "Blemish on the protein skimmer market"...oops ! I'll agree to that ! Still, I'm quite impressed with this Aqua C Remora Pro. I'm getting some pretty fowl smelling brown colored skimmate from this baby and a lot of it. I've noticed the water quality has improved quite a bit... It is pricey, but in my opinion it's the "Cats Ass" H.O.T. skimmer. |

I can't say enough good stuff about the AquaC Remora. I have one on my
55 gal tank. People recommend switching to the Remora Pro if your tank is larger than 75 gallons. |

It really swings back and forth dependingh on who you talk too. I have
also been looking at a hang on back skimmer. From my reading you either love or hate the Aqua Cs. Some say they work great while others say they have to constantlty play with it to get good consistent skimming. Same goes for the Euro Reff and Bakpac. I have been looking at the Deltec. I have been reading good reviews, not mixed. Only issue with these guys is the cost whcih is like $440.00. Ken |

Huh, I did quite a bit of Usenet reading before I bought my AquaC, and
if there were any negative comments about it, they were far outweighed by the positive comments. But maybe things have changed. |

You might find that most of Negative comments on the Remora Pro with the
Mag 3 is that it creates a different looking skimmate that many other skimmers. Many skimmers you get a dark foam, and people expect this.. with the Remora you get a very dark very smelly tea in the collection cup. Their efficiency is right up there though. Smelly tea mixed with baby shat...
I almost threw up the one day when I went in the fish closet behind my tank. I think I need ventilation back there. Question: Wont you get a darker foam if you raise the collection cup and more soupy lighter skimmate when it's lower ? I haven't played with that yet. that it creates a different looking skimmate that many other skimmers. You will never get a frothy foam that stays that way in the cup.
It will always turn into gnarly "tea". The way I think about it is, the lower the cup the more "water" in the tea, but more tea, the higher the cup less "water" in the tea..... to an extent.
