Default loaches (great)

AFAIK Clown Loaches like higher temps (80f thereabouts), which wouldn't be
that great for the goldies.

Higher temp is also useful in preventing ich, which Clown loaches are
susceptible to.

Default loaches (large clown small)

I also believe that clown loaches prefer to be in small schools. Just one
or two would possibly be very lethargic and uninteresting. They also grow
quite large. Additionally I believe they prefer rocks or driftwood to hide
in, which may change the way you set up your tank.

Default loaches (eight fish)

I bought four, now I wish I'd bought eight.
They're really interesting and entertaining fish.

Default loaches (three)

I have three of them that I've had about a month. They are just so
entertaining. They do always hang out together though.

Starfish,

You are doing a disservice to the clown loach. Clowns should be keep in
groups no smaller than 4 individuals.

Starfish,

Loaches are a special fish. The grow slowly, have a personality, and do
great in groups of 5 or 6 or more. The are a socialable fish with others of
their kind and can grow up to a foot in length if there environment allows.
By the way, they also like water flow. This can be created simply if you
have a powerfilter with a discharge tube on which you can add tubing to
bring the water flow underwater along a varied level in an aquarium. The
are also mostly nocturnal.

78 degrees is good for them although, warmer temperatures are better.
Goldfish do better in harder water, and higher pH and Clowns do better in
softer more acid water, so if you keep your water in the middle of pH (7)
and hardness, clowns will be all right, but the do better in different
conditions than Goldfish.
