Default Sentra '94 - sticking clutch pedal

I need some help in diagnosing the problem with my clutch pedal.
When I push it with my foot to the floor, it tends to stick in this position.
If I do not push it all the way, it still has some resistance going up...

I am not sure how to verify if this is the pedal itself which needs
some greasing, the cable is rusted and it does not work smoothly
or there is some problem with the clutch engage lever or clutch itself.

Other than the pedal sticking to the floor there is no problems with
the clutch engaging and disengaging transmission to/from engine.
How to aproach the issue ?

I have checked, and ther is no glue on my floor mats under the pedal ;-)

It's hydraulic I believe, not cable. Your slave cylinder is probably
failing.

It is 100% cable. Not hydraulic.
At least that much I know about my car... ;-)

On the sr20 motor (SE-R, I had a '93), after about 100k miles, it's not
unusual for clutch cable to fray/stick and need replacement (whole
assembly), how many miles on yours?
On my 95 SE-R, the clutch area / release was so crudded up (at 100K) it took
a lot of work to clean the mechanism up, it did work a whole lot easier
afterwards...

Never had a 1.6 liter, so not sure if it's the same

Slightly over 130k.

Are you refering to the clutch pedal area in the cabin
or the clutch release lever area in front of engine compartment ?
I do not see anything dirty or corroded next to the clutch lever.

Mine is 1.6 liter engine. I am not sure if more likely I have problem
with a cable or (scarry) problem with clutch release bearing...

Since I do not see a lot of people with experience in this area
I will probably take some time this weekend and disconnect
the cable from the clutch release lever and check if the cable
moves smoothly... I think it is worth to try - cable should be much
more cheaper than the clutch release bearing replacement ;-)

I had a problem with my clutch pedal sticking. I found a small hole in the
carpet right under the pedal which when depressed would catch the bottom of
the pedal. Duct tape fixed it.

I had a similar problem. The floor mat had moved slightly, and the
clutch pedal pedestal (not sure what you call it) was rubbing and
catching the floor matt. By the way I had an unusual problem with my
clutch. The lever that pulls the clutch cable (don't know what that's
called either) developed a 1/2 inch crack -- result was it was almost
impossible to shift. The mechanics had to pull the transmission to take
get the two pins holding this piece in.
