Hello, I have just bought a 94 200sx Turbo Automatic S14 second-hand with
34k on the clock! It has a full Nissan dealer service history up until 28k.
The power delivery seems to hesitate at high rpm so i will replace the plugs
& leads to replace the originals to see what happens. I will not be carrying
on the Nissan service history as it wont be economical so i plan to do
maintenance servicing myself. Does the NG know of any web sites/workshop
manuals/forums where i can get info on this car? This is the first Jap car i
have ever bought & already i am well impressed. The engine/gearbox are
superb & very well engineered, i like the Jap switchgear too, very positive
clicks. Today i easily smoked an MR2 with the 200sx. I am going to like my
new bargain buy.
P.S. The car seems to be doing about 18miles to the gallon, is this normal?
A bit worrying if it is.

Recalculate the mileage after you stop trying to 'smoke' other cars and
start driving normally. If you are going to use the car for racing,
don't expect good mileage.

Okay, that was humorous.

Goto your local dealer. they will know best, if you need any in depth
knowlage, ask to talk to a tech and find one that knows what you're
talking about. then ask him to look up the info for you, my local tech
was happy to print me off a piece of engine fiche.

Should have had an oil change at 30K miles. Next major is 36K miles
but with low mileage should be done every year and not on miles. Can
sludge up the cam and rocker lubrication tubes and jets in the head if
not done. For peace of mind take rocker cover off and have a look,
it's got a rubber gasket which doesn't need replacing. Major 36K
miles service is change oil, oil filter, air filter, inspect drive
belts, inspect fuel lines, check for operation of lambda sensor (make
the engine warning light on the dash flash in ECU mode II test, just
need a paper clip to short the pins on the check connector), check
vapor lines. Replace brake fluid, everything else is check, inspect
and look for leaks.

Plugs should be platinum tipped and last 60K miles (though 12 years is
pushing it). You will find it hard to replace the ignition leads it
doesn't have any. But on 70's and 80's Nissan's the ignition leads
would easily go 124K miles without trouble. All the aftermarket ones
were crap compared to Nissan OEM ones. Most motor bike coils have the
plug leads molded in to stop people buying crap (but pretty) ones that
degrade the performance and cause radio noise.

Should do about 25mpg.

Look for boost leaks, makes them run rich and fart about at peak
torque.

Beware some of those MR2's are imports and have turbo's too.

RS13 hatchback 1989-1994 CA18DET
2K about 2-3 psi, full boost 11psi at 3K, tails off over 5K.

Dunno about S14 1994-1999 (I think some stock wasn't registered till
2001) with SR20DET. But I do know it reduces boost in 1st and 2nd to
reduce load on gearbox.
