Crew Works on Station Equipment
Crew Works on Station Equipment
Thursday aboard the International Space Station, Expedition 10 Commander
Leroy Chiao checked out a malfunctioning digital camera. Flight Engineer
Salizhan Sharipov turned his attention to the continuing failure of an
oxygen-generation system.
Sharipov is still troubleshooting the balky Elektron oxygen-generating
system that shut down two weeks ago. He tried to power it up Thursday, but
it shut down spontaneously. Russian flight controllers are investigating.
Meanwhile the Station has sufficient oxygen and can be repressurized by
other means when necessary. Oxygen from the tank of a docked Progress
spacecraft repressurized the Station's cabin atmosphere Wednesday.
The Station's Control Moment Gyroscopes moved it slowly into a different
attitude Thursday. The maneuver, which moved the Station at a rate of only
0.0001 degrees per second, took about 31 hours.
