anyone at Osh check out the new Lowrance AirMap 2000?
Just wondered what anyone thought about the new gps?
How does it compare to the Garmin 296 ?

Jim Weir rated it "Best of Show" at his forum -- but only because Jim forgot
to look at the new AvMap.

;-)

Seriously, the 2000C is a nice looking unit, but the AvMap is twice the GPS
for only a couple of hundred aviation monetary units more.

Best of all, I doubt AvMap will stop servicing their units less than 36
months after you buy one -- which is what Lowrance did to me with the AirMap
300.

You have a flair for exageration. After researching many of the new
units, I doubt that any of them is "twice" as good as any other one.

This may be a legitimate reason for concern.

Wellllllll....

If itis a colour version of the AirMap 1000, it must be
really good....

We have a AM 1000, and like it better than anything else we
have tried, and that included a few $$$$$ panel mounts, and the
Garmins...

It has exceeded our expectations.... and colour would be
better for these old eyes, if done right..

Does either the AirMap or AvMap (man those are confusing names) have
terrain data, like the Garmin 296?

According to Vern (the chief programmer at AvMap, and the guy who developed
it when it was a Magellan product) they will be releasing the terrain
enhancement in less than one month.

He said it will be a free software upgrade when released, and will look much
like the Garmin version, but with AvMap's enhanced obstruction database.

If I've told you once I've told you a million times, don't exaggerate...

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Cheers,

Where do I find more on the AvMap? I've got a 2000 on order with JA
right now and I'll cancel if this is a better product.

After doing a google, I was able to find some marketing materials.
Any owners/users out there? Does anyone care to comment about this
newest product, or even about the past products in general? What
about customer service?
Thanks
