Unscheduled Commercial Maneuvers
It had been 10 months since I got my PP license, and therefore
probably like most folks, 10 months since I had last done any steep
turns or stalls. So, Saturday I went aloft with the Chief Instructor
from the school that I got my license with to do that sort of thing.
After we had finished all that we planned to do, he asked if I wanted
to try some of the commercial test maneuvers. 60 degree steep turns,
lazy eights, and chandelles. Wow!!!
I hadn't had that much fun since I did a bit of aerobatics as a
Midshipman 32 years ago. The lazy eights and chandelles were a lot
easier than the 60 degree turns. I wasn't adding enough throttle, so
the nose dropped off the horizon and when it did, I was looking at
dirt *really* fast. [Throttled back, eased back on the yoke, avoided
the potential stall, back up to target altitude, tried it again.]
