Default What is the best way to finance flight school

I will be a recent college grad in may and becoming a private pilot is always something I've wanted to do. Does anyone know the best way to fund this? Or is working and saving the really only way to accomplish becoming a pilot.

Thanks

Congrats on getting your degree!

In my case, I'm just digging deep and paying with cash.

There are loan programs out there and you should be able to find flight
schools that offer financing as well.

Go check out the schools in your area and start asking around.

Good Luck!

Pay Cash!

I think financing something like a PPL is a waste of money going for
interest and if you hit a learning curve it can cost you a lot more time and
money. What if you lose a job or your income source? Your stuck paying a
extra bill! What if you don't get enough money from the loan to cover all
the training? The interest on low dollar amounts may be high to excessive.

A Words of advice never give a flight school more than $500 at a time. I
learned the hard way what happens. You can lose money or be milked. Watch
your wallet and find an instructor that is in it for the love of flying and
that you feel comfortable with this will save you time and Time = Money.

Don't support the greedy profiteering glutens (Banks & Loan Company's)

"Which book helped you most during your time at the university?"
"My father's check book."

If you want to fly for pleasure then are you willing to incure debt for
pleasure? Most people will consider that poor judgement.
Are you looking for a job in aviation, e.g. maybe becoming an airline pilot
or will flying foster your business? Then you could argue that it's an
investment and thus taking out a loan may be justifiable.

That is really a decision that _you_ have to make.

Two ways
1) pay your self
2) get your contries air force to pay for you.

I have a friend looking at #1. She figured that she can earn enough
per week in Australia to pay for two hours of flight time. She can
get a student visa that allows her to work enough hours to cover the
flight time. I figure that will get her through the private, instrument
comercial and instructor. After that who knows.

Thats based on her working as many hours as she can and flying low
cost planes (ie. she owns a share in a C150)

Just get in and start... Necessity, as they say, is truly the mother of
invention.... If you want to learn to fly you will make the budget work....
by the way,,, Kraft Mac & Cheese dinners are pretty good! ;-)

I also just got my first real permanent job after my studies, and
decided to make my dream come true. After a lot of brain storming, i
decided to go with patience and savings. I made a budget and estimated
that i will need 2 years of savings.

It seems to be far but has a lot of advantages, like if i lose my job.
In that case i would just have to report my project for a year instead
of having severe debts. And with 2 years of savings, i'm sure to have
all the necessary money even if i need many extra lessons. No
financial stress at all so that i can concentrate on flying.

Also during those 2 years i can prepare myself better, by taking so
advance (reading ground school books, reading this newsgroup,
fs2004...). And the best thing is that it gives me a lot of motivation
in bad times of everydays life.

So yeah, i would suggest you to stick with patience, patience and more
patience. When the time will come you will feel well prepared and
ready. I'm planning to startmy lessons in the beginning of 2006, i
can't wait even if i have to! Best of luck.

Matt
