Boobs and high performance flying

|| I posed this query to my spouse (CAPT, MC(FS), USNR, Ret.). She is
| about 2 years retired and 5 from being in an RESFORON. She was also
| mostly VP. With that as a background...:-)
|
| She began by observing that most of the female Naval Aviators she ever
| saw were relatively lean women with relatively small breasts. She
| suspects that female aviators in the other services will be similar.
|
| As far as pulling g's is concerned, she knows of no studies (but then
| she's not real current, either). If a female aircrew came and
| complained of a difficulty she whould recommend a good sports bra.
| They compress breast tissue and prevent "bounce," which is a Very Bad
| Thing (from an anatomical standpoint). A steady pull is an easier
| thing to handle than a "bounce." With properly adjusted "foundation"
| garments there should not be a major difficulty. But, this is just
| her speculation.
|
| Traps might be more problematical, as chest straps come down over the
| breast. While mild bruising is a possiblilty, a good sports bra
| should take care of the problem.
|
| We did not really discuss what might happen if somebody like, say,
| Candy Samples, ever decided that a Hornet was for her!!! :-)

It leads one to ponder the effects of an ejection on the female anatomy.
I'm sure this has been addressed and is taken into account during the
selection process.
