Default RAF Tattoo Policy

Hi All,

I'm a 20 yr old male with 8 GCSEs above C grade and over the past 2
years I have wanted to join the Air Force and train to be a Weapon
Systems Operator. However about 3 years ago I stupidly had a tattoo of
a rose on the back of my neck.
This is where my trouble starts, I went down to the local careers
office and was turned away because of the RAF's strict policy on
tattoos even tho the tattoo is covered by collar very easily. This
spurred me on the have laser treatment tho and have been doing for the
last 2 years, It is very tedious, expensive and frustrating beacuse I
want this career so much.
The tattoo is is now nearly gone but now I have to find a new laser
clinic as the one I go to has gone out of business!!
Just wondering If anyone could give us any info/advice that set me on
my way, I have seen loads of soldiers with tattoos etc, arent there
ways around it.

Regards

Danny

Default RAF Tattoo Policy

Hi

Well, during my 22 years in the RAF I've seen a fair few blokes (and lasses)
with tattoos!

But - none were on the neck/face/hands, they were all on limbs or the body.
I don't recall seeing any policy on tattood necks etc. Never.

If, like you say, it's easily covered with a collar; I can't see what the
problem is.

There's nothing on the RAF Website about it either; I'd be tempted to
contact the Directorate of Recruiting at RAF Cranwell about it. Drop them a
letter - see what they say.

Good luck!

Your welcome!

No, afraid I don't. But, just ring any RAF, Army or Navy base, and ask the
MoD Operator to connect you to RAF Cranwell central registry and they will
provide you with the address!

G'luck!
