Fleet Composite Squadron EIGHT, the last US Navy squadron flying the A-4
Skyhawk, will be disestablished as of 30 Sep 2003. The disestablishment
ceremony and A-4 "retirement" ceremony will be held at NAS Oceana, VA on
Saturday, 23 Aug 2003. VC-8 and the Hampton Roads ANA chapter will be
sponsoring other events on Friday and Saturday.

That must be as old as Naval Air itself... VF-17 flew beer instead of ammo
when they took their F4U-1A Corsairs to war ;-)

And the "old" VC-8 (when the disestablishing one was VU-8) could, and
did, carry a whole lot of booze in that huge bombbay in the AJ Savages,
with assistance from their P2V-2 and 3 Neptunes).

I usta help load lobsters on the birds that came up to Brunswick in the
early 70s. Put 'em in everything from an A-37 to filling a C-118 front to
back as high as the bottom of the windows (that one went to NorVa).

Our C-117 from MCAS Beaufort made a few lobster runs, or was it cross country
training flights. It helped when our Maint Chief had a brother who lived there
to coordinate it all on the Brunswick end.

Lots of rum in the tail turret's ammo compartments in the A3D
Jacksonville/Gitmo runs also (VAH-1).
