NiMHs are crap, don't buy em!
Good point, i've just been out in the shed looking into this one, came about
because i've got a new NiCd on order and I want to make sure it is 'made'
properly on its first charge, so I started measuring voltages and currents.
I'm using a Pro-peak multi plus 12, it's got peak detect, an ammeter but
otherwise pretty basic, and
I thought it was ok. I generally do around 6 fast charges to one trickle,
trickled at 0.1C (130mA) and fast charged at 1C (1.3A). The pack in question
is an 8-cell 1300mAh NiMh.
I'm a little green once we get past this level of theory. The unloaded
voltage of the charger is measured at about 25v, loaded with the pack it
goes down to 10v, just above the 9.6v pack voltage.
This all seems ok to me unless anyone can spot any blinders.
Another question though - i've ordered a 800AR to replace this pack,
presumably this pack will need to be charged at 80mA to begin with, trouble
is the lowest trickle my charger can provide is about 110mA, any ideas how
to overcome this? In the early days I already killed at 500AR by leaving it
on trickle at 110mA for 10 hours a few times, thinking a trickle would
indeed be a trickle.
Thanks,
MDJ
