The sun was shining,temperature was tolerable and the wind was about
right - conditions that haven't been prevalent around here lately.

Time to try my refurbished Zagi. The covering was stripped off a while
ago and replaced with brown paper and PVA glue. This strengthened the
poor old thing, which was looking much the worse for wear after 4 years
abuse.

I had tried a new approach to covering.. some sticky backed plastic film
I spotted in a local DIY shop. It is very flashy - a nice red colour was
used on the bottom and a lovely gold colour on the upper side. It is what
I would call holographic -- it flashes different colours when twisted in
sunlight, a bit like a cdrom, only far brighter and colourful !
I have seen gift wrapping paper that is similar and could be pasted on
with PVA and would be even cheaper.

Last minute doubts set in... would it tend to "disappear" against strong
sunlight ?

It was a great success.. as the Zagi banked and turned the top surface
reflected different colours, yellow, green, red.. beautiful !!!
The underneath side just appeared dark (as underneath sides normally do)
against the sky... until it also caught the sunlight when turning >:-)

Cheap, quick, strong and very noticeable >:-))

Tried similar on a Travelair wing leading edge, looked great. Problem
was the colour was on the top of the film and fuel and cleaning slowly
washed the colour off. Ended up with a clear film. Still have some,
will try sometime with fuel proofing.

Such a simple little question...

Well I remembered that there were 4 pieces of this covering left over.
Confidently went into the loft..... not there.
Down to the shed... not there.
Rummaged through various boxes and shelves... not there.
Finally found them on a shelf in the wardrobe in the spare bedroom !

Now to answer your question......
There's no name or anything on the backing paper *&$£%$^& !!!
I will nip into the shop tomorrow and see if I can find out - it's very
near to where I live.

Initial impression would be that it is too heavy, however the covering
film is quite light as all the weight is in the substantial backing
material. I think it is intended for "craft" use.. cutting out fancy
shapes, etc.

OK went to the shop today (and bought the last roll they had).

It is called Images also has "magic fix" on the label and it is
made in Benelux (Belgium,Netherlands,Luxembourg) according to the label.

It cost £2.20 and comes on a roll 45cm wide and 1.5m long.
This roll is the gold colour and has the following info on the label
ART.0708/450/S
REF. 708
That's all the info there is on the label. When you first pick it up it
would seem to be too heavy for covering... all the weight is in the peel
off backing paper. I was looking at some holographic gift bags in the
local supermarket this morning and they are nowhere near as effective
as this Images stuff.

Flushed with the excitement of spending I carried on to a local fishing
tackle shop as I wanted some wire for a pull - pull rudder and elevator
setup. £2.35 bought me a spool of 75lb stainless steel trace wire.
There is 8 metres of wire and 12 crimps for that price !
It also comes in a nifty plastic case which allows you to take off the
amount you want without all the rest having to be removed and
consequently get tangled >:-)

Thanks for going to all that trouble. I will have to look for it or a
comparable product in the art shops here in Toronto. It sounds like it is
worth a try for something different.

Hope you find some. It worked out O.K for me, when I went in to get some
info I found they only had 1 roll left. I bought it 'cos the shop is
closing down shortly when they retire. I tried a Google search but
didn't come up with anything online about it.
