Default Corvette battery and optima replacement

Hi

I keep having problems with my 2001 vette if I do not use it for 3 or 4 days
the battery is down.

I have changed the battery but still have the problem, I know I have a small
drain due to a tracker etc but after reading the newsgroups it would appear
the battery is a problem.

I have been recommended an optima battery as a replacement, can anybody give
me there impression of this battery.

Thanks

Nothing except the top post on some interfere with the bracket on some
installations. I would also suggest that the tracker or the "etc" is
installed wrong and only needs to wake up due to motion or ignition
activation. I would consider getting that corrected before I send an
Optima to an early grave. I've replaced 1 battery in 70,000 miles in 2
C5s and a C6 after nine years of total use running a cell phone,
laptop with a GPS mapping program, and a CB.

Sounds to me like the problem is not the battery. My 2001 has the original
and it's still pumping out plenty of juice at 42K miles.

Had the same problem with my C-4...when I upgraded to a new ecm the problem
went away..before that nothing on earth could stop the battery drain. To
this day I have no idea what was the original problem with the ecm.

A friend has a 2002 and had the same symptoms, turns out one post was
corroded almost entirely through. The post actually detached from the
battery upon removal. A new battery was purchased from a non-GM source and
the problem went away.

Been running an Optima (red top) in my C4 for just over three years.
(got one of the old stubby ones that did fit under the CC servo.) The
battery has impressive cranking voltage for the first few seconds--makes
for a fast start. It has lousy deep-cycle characteristics. (Optima
makes deep-cycle batteries for Marine and heavy duty applications--those
don't fit cars.)

A couple of weeks ago I got home late and did a "deep cycle test" on the
C4--left the interior lights on overnight. Next morning, nary a
solenoid or relay click--nothing from the center console lamp. Left the
load off for 10 minutes and came back and tried again. Nada! Open
circuit voltage (3 vdc) was lower than I've ever seen in a car battery.
Battery did take a charge but didn't bounce back to where it was
before the dumb**** move. My charger has a standard charging profile
and might not be ideal for the gel-cell type of design in the Optima. I
haven't a clue as to how it might behave in really cold WX.

If you like real crisp starts, the Optima is impressive. If that isn't
important, go with something more conventional (and save a few bucks).
