Default Trading my 73 vette, need opinions

I am considering trading my Bright Red 73 corvette for an 02 camaro z28
convertable. I need to know if it is a fair trade, should I expect to pay
some, get some cash etc.

My Corvette has fresh paint, new tires, L82, M22, new clutch/pressure plate,
new calipers, new rear rotors, new battery, very clean motor, some small
leaks around the pan, transmission is less than 2 years old, 4.11 diff, has
ricaro seats and has a tear in one of them. The car is mecanically sound,
slight play in steering wheel (needs new bushing/doughnut thingy), very few
knicks in paint. No frame runs, no stress cracks, no crashes. It does have a
front and rear clip from a 1980 corvette though.

The camaro is a 35th anniversary edition with the corvette motor. It is a
Z28 convertable with leather interior, automatic, and apparently very clean.
Has about 17000 miles on it and is a trade in.

The dealership said they may be able to trade straight across or get me some
cash in pocket as well if I decided to do that.

I really love my Corvette, but I have 2 kids and a wife and a bum knee.
Getting in and out of the Corvette has become a task with my bad knee.

Let me know if this a good deal in your opinions or should I
consider/propose a different offer.

The Corvette is also a WSCCA award winner, 2nd in class at the Monterey Del
Oro 50th anniversary car show in monterey, ca as well as a merchant's choice
award winner from Cherries Jubilee at Laguna Seca, CA.

Thanx in advance
Casey

I would say if you can get an even trade you better jump on it quick. The
camaro is really quite a bit more valuable than that 73 is currently.

I think the dealer is pulling your leg on the motor, better verify that that
02 Z has a 02 corvette motor, I think you'll find the ponies are less and
not truly a (corvette) motor.

Well...Just got back from the dealer, and without even looking at my car,
offered me $2000!!! That is the biggest load of crap I had ever heard! He
didn't ask about the motor/options/condition/paint or anything. Just typed
73 corvette in his computer and told me that unless it is 30 years old or
more, it just wasn't valuable. Funny thing is he had a 78 in the showroom in
worse condition than mine (not saying mine is in bad condition) and he was
trying to sell for around 15K!!

I think he was trying to get the car cheap and then resell and make a huge
profit!

Well, I am going to try to sell it locally and see what happens. I have had
several 16k offers recently, but just didnt want to sell at the time!

Thanx
Casey

I also have a 73' and love it. As for as the value, if you where
offered 16k for it, depending on the condition and engine size, you
should take it. I paid less less that for mine and it is almost show
condition and all original (L48 and turbo400 tranny). Larger engine, 4
speeds and convertibles would bring more, they go for around 20k in
show condition. These prices are from Corvette Fever magazine. Price
Guide below:

# 1 Fully restored with no wear
# 2 Fully restored, with minor wear
# 3 partially restored or good original
# 4 Unrestored
# 5 Unrestored, with major wear

All above assume original engine and no frame rust.

1973 Coupe

#1 #2 #3 #4 #5

L48/Auto $17,500 $14,000 $11,000 $8,500 $6,000

L82/Auto $19,000 $15,500 $12,500 $10,000 $7,500
L82/4-Speed $20,000 $16,500 $13,500 $10,500 $8,000

LS4/4-Speed $26,500 $22,500 $18,000 $16,000 $10,500

1973 Convertible

Number 1 you stuck a 1980 front and rear clip on what will be ( or in the right
condition )is a classic car.You have, you say an M-22 Rock crusher tranny? do
you know how much and in demand those are? you need to take your car off the
road and put it back to 1973 specs! 1st get rid of the front and back! that is
the 1st year of the rubber front and hard tail. what you have now with the
Recaro seats and other options is a high school hot rod, not a classic "Vette".
spend the money or sell it out right for what you can get. BIG difference
between a true corvette and any Camaro.

I should have re-read the post. If the front and rear has been change,
it's not worth anywhere close to 16k, you should have took the 16k and
"ran" to the bank.

I bought the car in that condition. When I bought it, all I knew was that it
was a corvette, nothing more. Everything I have learned about this car came
from crawling under it and finding numbers or replacing the broken parts
myself. I have done all maintainence and repairs on it myself, so I know
what is in it now. I wish I had known that it was wrong from the beginning,
I would probably not bought it. As far as saying it is not a TRUE corvette,
I have to disagree. It is still 100% Corvette, although not 100% original. I
know a lot of purists that will disagree with me, and I have had several
conversations with them, but the car is still a beautiful example of
American automobile history, and a great car overall. I kinda like the
front, but hate the back! I have been trying to locate parts to make it
original, but it gets expensive!
