Default radio install

I am installing a non-factory radio in my corvette.
I've just had enough of messing around with the Delco Bose system.
The CD Doesn't work, the radio now pops and hisses randomly, and one of
the front speakers appears to be blown.

So - out it goes, and in with a new system.

I've already put 6x9's in the rear with a custom mounting plate. However,
now I have several things that remain to be done.

I need to locate a always on power source.
Then I need a power source that's only on when the car is on.
Finally, I need a source of power that matches the in dash illumination.
And a good ground.

And - it would be nice to figure out how to hook the antenna up so it goes
up and down properly.

Has anyone done this?

OR - does anyone know a good place I can pull some or all of the power
needs?

Thanks all!

In my 92 vette, I think that the tuner unit (not the head) is actually
tucked behind the center dash.

However, everyone reports it as being being the passenger seat.

Did they change positioning for 92?

A buddy needed to locate his a few years ago and it was behind the
drivers seat (94 I think)...

As for yor request about aftermarket Radios etc... I can honestly tell
you mine all work (turn them on then off) almost every time I pull one
of the cars out of the garage..... I just am not into music and driving...

There should be an output to the power antennae from the new stereo, so
that's a non-issue. I don't know if new stereos have a separate power input
for illumination. If they do, just connect it to any instrument light. The
other power inputs can be found right on the fuse block. You should have at
least one of them available from the old stereo, if not both. If the old
stereo has memory, then both the "always on" and the "switched on" power
leads are there. Just use a volt meter to determine which is which. If you
have to go to the fuse block, Radio Shack has "adapters" that go under blade
type fuses to provide a male spade connector. They cost pennies.

Well first off u will need to by a adapter module so it will not mess up the wiring for your air bags/seat belts this module is specific for the year and model of your car and any audio installer will have it, though it will run around more or less 50 bucks, it will keep everything in your vehicle working that would not work without the module, such as air bag/seat belt lock. it varies...then u take the cd player and wire it to the module...which can be tricky if the wires are not color coded to match...after that u slide the cd deck into the plastic dash kit made for your vehicle (Walmart- Around $20) to help the cd player have a snug fit in the existing dash....all this can be tricky and may need to be done by a professional to insure that no safety wiring is messed up much luck
