car won't start
Thanks for the replies. The car does have an HEI distributor and that sounds
the most likely reason for no spark. I'll try to find a rebuilt one and see if
that works.
I think my oil pressure switch is working properly because my fuel pump is on
only when the car is running. I say "only", and I mean it. To get the car
started, I have to remove the fuel pump relay and short two of the wires in the
connector. But once the car starts, the fuel pump stays on even after
unshorting the wires.
After tightening up the wires at the starter motor, I think (but not sure) the
engine cranks now whenever I turn the key to start. I was worried that the
intermittent spark, combined with the absence of fuel pump power, might be
computer related. But the ignition switch suggestion seems pretty reasonable.
It looks like I have my weekend cut out for me!! Thanks for the replies.
