Default Cutter Review (cutter cigar)

Included in the Born to Herf goody bag was a single blade cutter donated by JM
Cigars of Exton Pa. It has no brand name on it but I have seen similar ones
referred to as a Havana cutter. The distinctive feature of this cutter is that
it is spring controlled. You press a button to open the blade and it springs
to attention. You then feel the resistence of the spring when making the cut.
When making a purchase at JM once I was given one of these and was told that it
was great. Made a couple of cuts without paying attention and then lost it.

With no place for your finger--you press on a flat bar -- this looks like the
lowest of cheap cutters. It is too small to really get into a larger ring sized
cigar but is large enough to remove the cap. With this ugliness it makes
astonishingly good cuts. The blade is very sharp but I have to conclude that
it is the resistence of the spring that distinguishes it. I have used most of
the usual suspects and mostly use a Zino but, so far, I am really liking this
one. JM sells them for $2.50 and sometimes gives them away. If you see one
give it a try.

Yep, they are all I use if my Xicar isn't available. I have them
stashed all over for when I forget the good one...

Default Cutter Review (cigar)

I have been using the same one for several years and it works great
every time. The best way I have found to use it is to lay it on a
flat surface, and stand the cigar straight up. It takes the perfect
amount of cap off just about every time.

Probably not paying enough attention to the gorup, but what's JM?

Thanks,

John

I own a number of quality cutters, including Xikar, Palio, Zino, and Swiss
Army. None of them cuts as cleanly as the Havana Cutter, which can shave
1/16" off the head of a cigar without mashing it and doesn't seem to ever
get dull. The only problem with this cutter is that they are difficult to
find through online merchants, and those few who do sell them online tend to
price them much higher than the $3.00 range that they should go for (based
on wholesale cost).

I got one of these in a care package from Crabby's parents... Excellent

Seconded, with enthusiasm!
I was given one as a freebie by Davidoff in London a while
back, and I have hardly used any of my other cutters. My
little theory was that it cut so well because the blade is
so thin; after all, scalpels are thin-bladed, too, right?

Guess I'll have to give it a try - I usually toss the plastic ones into my
drawer, never to be seen again. I'm going to add it to my glove box in the
car - so I'll never be without a cutter again...

Thanks for the heads-up.

Thanks for the review, Eric. I wasn't going to try mine, as I really
like my Xikar. Based on your review, I'll give this one a try.
