Default Humidor Starter Kit ... (cigars humidor)

What is "a humidor starter kit"?!

Please oh please oh please tell me it's not some package deal concocted
by Thompsons in which you get over 80 cigars "practically free!"

1. Go to Wally World and buy a shoe box sized piece of Rubbermaid food
storage container. Be sure it is one of those type that has an airtight
seal.

2. Go to your local tobacconist and purchase a few cigars.

Now while your there ask him for a couple of the cedar sheets that are
layered in between the cigars in some brands of cigars.

3. While you are at the tobacconist also purchase a small credo device or
a Humidastik (sp?). (either should cost about the same)

If you purchase a small credo almost any good tobacconist will be more than
happy to wet it down with a little PG/distilled water solution for you.

4. Go home and wash the Rubbermaid box and let it air dry for a few hours.

5. Lay the cedar sheets in the bottom of the box, put the moisture device
and the cigars in there and seal it up.

BAM ... now you have a humidor starter kit for less than $15 and you also
have money left over to now shop and try many new cigars before you decide
on what exactly you like.

Next week we will explain the next step ... Coolerdor.

I have 2 El Reys and I have had zero trouble with them and I am very
pleased.

These guys have some nice ones too (nada!):

Default Humidor Starter Kit ... (ashtray cutter standard cigars humidor)

What Mickey said. Sort-a. Some more notes:

* My guess is that you'll be able to squeeze about a box, *MAYBE* 30
cigars into this humidor.

* While it comes with your standard "cheap-ass ****og hygrometer", you
should check it before replacing -- every once in a while, they ship one
that works Also, replace it with any decent unit (typically in the
$20 range) that suits your taste. Digital or ****og doesn't matter --
they're roughly the same price (ever-so-slightly less for ****og, but
you won't notice) for the same quality model.

* Personally, I don't think that ash tray looks like it'll hold the
ashes of 3 cigars from the 3 sides -- ok, maybe if they're cigarettes.
Still, there's nothing like a nice, big "proper" cigar ashtray.

So, while $55 is a fair deal (assuming the humidor seals, and you should
return it if it doesn't) for a box, credo & cutter, you could probably
find similar deals at other places, if you see one you like better.

Ah -- I just noticed that the link in my .sig lists a bunch of cigar
vendors but not many humidor places. I'll go fix that

I have the Pompeii. Does the job quite nicely. It was a gift from a buddy
after my previous Humi was absconded with. The built-in hygro indicates
between 75-85% humidity all the time, so it's way off. I haven't tested it,
but my smokes come out just fine...

In article <3q68ivgmaem5tlbfm124e8bgoq3fjju2mb@4ax.com>,
ptusa@houston.rr.com says...

Looks like a decent box, at a decent price.

I would think you could do worse.

Just beware the hygrometer. It may look pretty, but usually humidors
ship with cheapie hygros. Do the salt test on it. If it seems suspect,
ditch it and get a better one...
