Default Humidor Fix-up Questions (humidor)

I'm trying to improve the seal on my humidor as I haven't been able to get
the humidity up the last few weeks. It's old and not spectacular quality
so there are some cracks and things that need to be sealed. I've been
using wood glue without any odor problems, but I was wondering if anyone
has any other recommendations for some kind of odor-free sealant? (I
don't want to just throw this humidor away.)

Also, regarding tupperdors... I've read about the dangers of
over-humidification and the build-up of ammonia in a completely air-tight
container like a tupperdor, but what if I cut out the middle of the cover
and glued in a sheet of spanish cedar in it's place? Would that work? Is
it the dumbest idea on Earth? If so, why?

Thanks for any help!

Parafin, in the jelly [-making] section of your grocery store. Soften
it by leaving it in a sunny window for a couple of hours, so you can
work it into any cracks or dents.

Not even close. I've had several dumber ideas in just the past month!

Not sure if it would work, but it probably couldn't hurt. I'd not cut
out a lot; you don't need a LOT of air exchange.

But, really, all you need to do is open it once a month to look at your
cigars -- which is a good idea (check for mold/beetles) anyway...

Ah, thanks. I hadn't even thought of something waxy like that.

I suppose, it would likely be opened more often than that anyway... I'll
let you know how it goes if I try the wood thing. I might need a
tupperdor in the next few months if my collection keeps growing.

BigOak suggested some type of glue not too long ago, might try to
google his posts the past couple of months if no one else offers
ideas.

Unless you have REAL young cigars, the ammonia build up won't be
anything that won't be vented if you are in there once a month. Your
idea might work, only one way to find out. This really isn't rocket
science...it's just cigars! <g>

Helped hope it .

(sorry, couldn't resist the Yoda reference.)

Thanks, I found posts from him recommending Woodworker II glue & Dap
caulk. I'll look into that.
