True to the man's word, a parcel arrived on my doorstep the other day with
the mysterious words "Dominican Sampler" pencilled on the front. Wow, I can't wait to get started on these things...Davidoffs, a VSG and a La Aurora Preferido (cute one) among other goodies. A big THANK YOU to Hutch for sending this all the way to Singapore! +++++++++++++++++ Review: Arturo Fuente Don Carlos #4 Construction was nice...I saw "Gran Reserva" on the band and mistook it for one, until corrected by Hutch. Lit easily and burned well despite its 7-day journey over here. A citrusy and slightly floral aroma was evident, with dark-chocolate undertones lingering on the palate. Unlike many Cubans with darker, stronger tastes, this one remained very smooth in the mouth and throat, barely requiring any drink. Hinted at harshness near the band, but resting for 2 minutes resulted in great change; an incredible burst of earthy tobacco punch. Is this really a DR cigar? Strangely enough cedar started coming to the fore, with a background of toasted nuts. Even rapid smoking to the nub never turned the flavour....good till my burnt fingers made me drop it. Overall: A complex, full-bodied cigar without being overly harsh. Great for lovers of darker, richer tastes; I could make this an everyday smoke. Hutch's attempt at convincing me that quality does sometimes lie outside Cuba seems to be working so far! -- ------------------------ / The Privateer alvinwee@_spamless_email.com [remove _spamless_ to send mail] |
