Yep, part of the limited edition stuff... Along with Cohiba Prominente's &
Pyramids, and god knows what other vitolas out there. These ones have a
maduro wrapper. I've yet to have one, and although I would like to try one,
I'm not about to rush out and get one. IMO, all these different sizes and
limited edition stuff is non-sense. One could always rely on Cubans to have
standard sizes and shapes and know what was out there. Now, who knows
what's going on, what with new bands, sizes, limited editions. When there
is confusion in the market, it's easier to counterfeit. I also ponder if
it's an attempt to gain brand power and lifespan... who knows.

Default Montecristo robustos (robustos standard)

No robustos in the standard Cuban Montecristo line, but they did come
out as one of the first Edicion Limitadas in 2000. They are one of
only three (out of 15) of the EL's that I liked enough (and tasted
enough aging potential in) to stock in. They were very tasty 3+ years
ago when I buried them, and are probably just now approaching
terrific. The Partagas Pyramid, which was released the same year, is
just now coming of age. Side note: While originally stated to be a
true limited edition (to be released once and not again), some of the
EL's have been "rereleased"....the Monte Robusto being one of them.
One of my vendors has a 2003 version.

I think they're great. The only LE I've really liked yet, but I've
only had three. They are expensive though. They seem to be the only
LE that has a natural wrapper. My thoughts on Cubans are " the Uglier
the wrapper the better". Probably just me though.

And the RyJ Robusto is another.
I recently acquired a box that claims 'Limited Edition 2001' on the corner
seal, but shows September 2002 as the factory date.
They are delicious.

How did you know ? Those 2 and the Parti SD3's (from the 2001
release) are the only ones I intentionally stocked in.

I got a good deal on some RyJ Hermosa #1's (from the 2003 release),
but the jury is still out on them. The only one I have heard good
reports on, but have yet to try, are the Hoyo Pyramids. Anybody have
some input ?

Default Montecristo robustos (robustos partagas standard cigars robusto)

hey all I hope this message finds you all well, I have a raging ear
infection at the moment so I am writing this in a quasi drug daze (legal
drugs that is),

the first limited robusto came out in late 1999 to commemorate the
millennium (such a long time ago now) they were done on the porcelain jar,
along with the cohiba pyramid and cuaba, although there is rumour that the
cuaba was meant to be a partagas but the Cubans changed there minds at the
last banding minute, these montecristo cigars at the time were the best of
the 3 although some say the cuaba caught up with a little age. the were very
different with substantially more flavour that rounded strength than a
standard Monte cigar (with the exception of an exceptional Monte 2 if you
have smoked one lately).

the other Monte robusto came out in the le box, with a very dark wrapper
(the le range comes with aged wrapper from the upper part of the plant with
sees a little more sun and is a little more robust and strong (lol) for that
reason

I was lucky enough to buy 1 each of the millennium jars at the time to age
and see where the value of the cigars went (possibly selling the if the hit
the roof in value)
but I will be just as happy to smoke them suckers if the don't increase in
value,

now that is what I call win win

Spiro

ps hutch I have not received your package that you sent before xmas, might
it have been lost or did you send it real snaily,

Same here.
I still can't decide, though, whether they are good because
they're good (IYKWIM), or whether this is due to the age on
them.

Maybe we should wait with the taste test on the 2003 crop
until they've had time to mature, say in '06 sometime?

It is just you.
:-)

The EL series wrappers are ugly alright, but the normal
range is far better-looking.

If you liked the Monte robusto, do give the RyJ robusto a
try. It's an excellent smoke.
