My montecristo white review (montecristo cigar cuban humidor)
We had a good thunderstorm here on the gulf coast last night,
and as such it was one of my favorite times for a cigar. I therefore
chose last night to sit on my porch and watch the storm while
I tried the montecristo white, and here is my honest and
humble remarks on it.
VERY firm draw... very well constructed, giving a long and
tight ash. Tightly rolled. Milky white wrapper color. Gave
lots of very thick smoke. Fragrance it yielded was very
pleasant for a cigar, so it will be one of the more environment
friendly choices to make (no stale, old fogie type stench).
However, where the presentation and appearances excelled,
the flavor came up a little short. While being fuller bodied then
the other monte's (and was in fact advertised as such), it wasn't
a very complex cigar at all.. very simple and basic. The only
noteworth flavor that I can describe was "light and creamy".
Overall, it was a pleasant smoke if a bit light on the body for
my tastes (i'd rate it a 4 on the scale of 1 to 10, with 1 tasting
like pure air and a 10 being a strong, potent, fullest bodied
cigar you can imagine), but it just wasn't worth the $10 price
tag that came with it. If it had been a blind taste test, I would
imagine I couldn't distinguish the difference between this
smoke and a $1-a-stick, mild bodied dominican bundle you
may buy without even a label.
My final assessment is that I might purchase a few of these,
say no more than half a dozen, to stash away in my
humidor and never use myself, but keep to pass out at
an event or party I may be hosting if I feel it will be necessary
to use a big, famous name label to impress the cigar smokers
that may be there. Of all the montecristos I have tried,
which is most of the non-cuban ones, this one so far is my
favorite (if forced at gun point to smoke a monte, i'd choose
this one); however, in retrospect, I doubt seriously that this
one will be included in my "regular rotatoin" if I may coin
that phrase.
