cigarettes expose smokers to greater amounts of several cancer-causing
chemicals compared to two "ultralight" cigarette brands already on the
market.

The study, which was commissioned by the Massachusetts Department of
Public Health and conducted by Labstat International Inc., a certified
cigarette testing laboratory, found that Eclipse produced
approximately equal or higher amounts of several potent carcinogenic
chemicals as compared to the "ultralight" Now and Carlton brands.

The study's findings contradict RJR's claims that smoking Eclipse
produces 80 percent less carcinogens than a "typical ultralight."
RJR's claims were not subject to proper scientific review and were not
confirmed by the FDA or any independent scientific or government body.

Yeah, you better throw the bullshit early on for this one - but it does
kind of blow your claims that light cigarettes are just as harmful as
regular ones, doesn't it?

I mean, they did have to find a couple of extremely light cigarette
brands to come up with any with any more of anything, didn't they?

No, it doesn't. If lite cigarettes are smoked exactly the same way as
regular cigarettes (which is how the machines do it), then the lite
cigarettes will contribute less nicotine and tar. That's not the way the
real world works, however. Smokers compensate covering the holes in the
filter to get a stronger mix, by drawing harder and by holding the smoke in
longer to get the nicotine (and thus the tar) that they need.


Only because of their smoking 'technique'. If a smoker consumes two Carlton
or Now in the same length of time they would have smoked a Marlboro or
Winston cigarette, then they haven't saved themselves anything - they
actually may be doing more damage.

Actually, that's another myth. I've studied the way I smoke to see if I
do cover the holes in the end, and although sometimes a few of them may
get covered, I don't stick the cigarette far enough into my mouth for my
lips to cover them, and I don't hold it close enough to the end for my
fingers to cover them.

And even if I did cover them, you still can't get around the fact that
Eclipse cigarettes don't have nearly as much tar than conventional
cigarettes.

That lingering smell you're always whining about? I wouldn't be able to
smell it on others if these cigarettes had the same effect, wouldn I? I
know I wasn't able to smell it on others when I still smoked Camels.

Another thing I've found out since switching to these. Some women wear
way too much perfume. It's blood offensive!

But then they had to dig fairly hard to find that only a couple of
particular chemicals were equal to a couple of extremely light
cigarettes. Most of the chemicals were at extremely low levels.

I do kind of miss seeing the smoke linger for more than a second or so,
but you aunties should love that. What you do see is 80% water vapor.

addiction? Or are you so deep in denial that you think Eclipse won't
kill you the way any well designed tobacco product will?

That presumes that nicotine will kill me. There is a chance of that,
but not a very large one.

Since it also produces less smoke, it is more socially acceptable.

That also presumes that all smokers will die of smoking. The facts
aren't with you, boy.
