Default Republica Dominicana Cigars (cigars)

Just got a box (I collect boxes) of cigars and I was wondering what they are
and how good are they? What do they taste like.

The labelson the boxes (two) are:

Republica Dominican
Sello De Garantia De Fabrica
Tabacalera Carlos Rafael
Tamboril Santiago
Puros Hechos A Mano

The front of the box is stamped Sabor Habano/

Just curious they smell great!
thanks in advance for anyone that can help me!

I don't even know what they are...

If someone could tell me the origin of this I would be happy.

A friend of the family gave it to me and I am looking to see what it is. (I
don't smoke)

Default Republica Dominicana Cigars (united states cigars cohiba cigar)

I googled for it, and found this, from this very newsgroup, five years ago:

Company Press Release

SOURCE: Global Direct Marketing

GDM, Cubatobaco Continue Trademark Battle for
COHIBA Cigar; Global Direct Marketing to Resume Sales
in United States

NEW YORK, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Global Direct Marketing (GDM),
responding to overwhelming demand for the Montecristi COHIBA Republica
Dominicana, will continue to sell the cigar in the United States under a
different label.

The COHIBA cigar trademark is subject to ongoing litigation by
Cubatobaco against General Cigar and General Cigar against GDM. However,
on December 31, 1997, Judge Sweet of the Southern District Court of New
York ordered a preliminary injunction against Global Direct Marketing.
The order stated, in part, that ``Global Direct Marketing must inform
all customers that they cannot sell COHIBA brand cigars in the United
States and that all their COHIBA cigar sales to date have been
unauthorized and were not COHIBA brand cigars.

Pending the outcome of a full trial against General Cigar Co., GDM will
sell the Montecristi cigar in the United States without the COHIBA name.
The familiar black and orange/yellow ring will remain the same, as will
the box. Where COHIBA was printed on the cigar ring, a gold Indian head
will appear.

``We are confident that the premium cigar market will easily identify
our cigar and continue to support our efforts during litigation. All
COHIBA Republica Dominicana cigars sold outside the United States will
retain the existing name and packaging.'' Says GDM's Raymond Parker.

Global Direct Marketing will continue to offer their original premium
Republica Dominicana cigar through their exclusive sales and marketing
agent, the Speakeasy Cigar Co. of St. Charles, Illinois.
