Default Review: Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 Silver Corona Grande (cigar)

Cigar: Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 Silver Corona Grande
Size: 46 x 6.13"
Wrapper: Hon, Criollo, N
Binder: CR
Filler: Hon/Nic
Flavor Body: Medium
Stength: Medium
Country: Hon
Date Received: 2004-06-17
Suspected Age: 5 months
Vendor/Price: Gift from Caffeine, ASC - Thank you!
Beverage(s): Water, Bridgeport IPA
Smoke time: 1:30
Date: 2004-08-30

Overall: A good cigar, not a great cigar, though it may be better than
this review makes it seem. Palate has been off lately. Starts out mild and
toasty with pepper and a sweet finish. Moves through cedary, and into leather,
staying peppery. Burn was problematic, and needed multiple corrections.
Occasionally harsh. Good smoke volume.

Ambience: Beautiful day in the GPNW. Nearing sunset. High tide coming in
toward slack. 78F. Very, very light variable winds. Water nearly flat, no
sails. A freighter or two coming in on the tide, and a barge or two being
towwed out against the tide. A noisy party boat steams out of the locks spewing
some sort of pop muzak. The sun is going down behind Mt. Olympus, just north of
true west. Equinox not far away. As the sun goes down the sea lions start
their nightly cacophony. High wispy clouds catch the last of the sun over blue
mountains framed against a pink and orange sky.

Construction: Good looking cigar, slightly swollen and split foot. Tight,
thin wrapper with some tooth. Some hard spots. Double cap. Very nice aroma,
toffee, caramel.

Cut & Prelight: Cut well. Good draw, just the right amount of resistance. Bit
of spice on the lips and tongue.

First third: Good smoke volume. First few puffs were spicey and peppery.
Sweet finish. Mild toasty with pepper. Later, aromatic wood - cedar. White
smooth ash. Ashed itself at 1.5".

Second third: Pepper more pronounced. Burn crooked, and needed a few
corrections.

Third third: Getting woody and leathery. Eventually, a little ashy and
harsh. Abandoned at about 2".

I had one of these gifted to me by TimL and I agree with you, this is a
pretty good cigar but not great. To me the peppery part did not last the
whole way through and I was waiting for it to get a bit stronger. The night
after that I smoked a Torano Exodus 1959 Gold and like it much better.
The flavors were similar but the Gold was just enough stronger and more
full to me.

At least you had more than "Thanks..." to add to the fully-quoted
review.

Would it have taken THAT much time/effort to have edited your quote to look like:

And then added your note?

Nice review as always. You should post a picture somewhere of your
view. It always sounds amazing.

I smoked the Gold in a robusto, and it just kicked my ass! I enjoyed
the cigar, but towards the end I really started getting a nicotine
buzz. Went inside and sat down for a few minutes, then had to go to
bed. I guess I'm still just a newbie!

They're definitely a good looking cigar. I think that was part of what
made me grab it at the store.
