Cigar: La Gloria Cubana Serie R
Size: 4.75 x 52 Wrapper: Binder: Filler: Flavor Body: Strength: I thought it a bit strong, but not overpowering to my taste Country: Date Received: Sept 13, 2004 Suspected Age: Unknown Vendor/Price: Local Vendor, I forget the price, but I think it was ~$4.50USD Beverage(s): Water Smoke time: 22:00 Date: Sept 13, 2004 Before I get too far into this, let me state this is my first attempt at a review, and I'm also a newbie when it comes to cigars -This was only my second non-flavored cigar, and though I've been lurking in A.S.C. for a few months trying to get an idea of what I should "start with", please indulge me if my newbie impressions don't exactly jibe with the more seasoned palettes of the group, or if I'm posting reviews of stuff that has been reviewed to death already. ![]() Myself, my roommate & his new girlfriend, and a friend of my roomies were on the patio, drinking beers, talking about work, and just trying to relax. I had been to the tobacconist earlier in the day and purchased a handful of goodies - A Punch, Hoyo De Monterey, Hoyo De Monterey Excalibur, and the La Gloria Serie R. All chosen at random. I haven't been smoking long enough to know what I like yet, so I just grabbed stuff that I recognized from other reviews. My roommate suggested I start with the La Gloria, so I did. I'm writing this review the 'morning after' the fact, because I was having too much fun to worry about it last night. I'm not really sure what to tell you all. The cigar looked and smelled wonderful out of the humidor, I was kind of concerned that I should have let it rest for a couple of weeks before trying it, but I just couldn't bring myself to do that. It lit really well from my Zippo (I know, Naphtha bad but it's all I have) The burn was fairly consistent and was easily corrected when it got out of shape. I can't say I noticed any flavors other than spice and wood throughout the entire cigar. I don't know if that's because of my 'uneducated palette' or if that's how that particular cigar tastes for everyone. There was a consistently white/grey ash that seemed to be firm, but I tipped it a few times because I chickened out and didn't want ash on my khaki's. Lots of smoke, and the overall scent of the cigar was nice. Not overpowering like everyone says cigars are. Overall I'd say it was a pleasing smoke, and I'll definetly be buying more when I have the money. If anyone has any suggestions on what else I should try, let me know please. I can definetly use some guidance. ![]() Thanks. -- Tim DeBoer http://www.freebsd-geek.com It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.
