Default Review: Nat Sherman Host Selection Hamilton (cigar)

Cigar: Nat.Sherman.Host.Selection.Hamilton
Size: 42 x 5.5"
Wrapper: CT
Binder: Hon
Filler: Hon
Flavor Body: Mild-Medium
Stength: Mild-Medium
Country: Hon
Date Received: 2004-07-29
Suspected Age: Unknown
Vendor/Price: Gift from Mickey, ASC - Thank you!
Beverage(s): Bridgeport IPA, Water
Smoke time: 1:13
Date: 2004-09-10
Posted to ASC: 2004-09-11

Overall: After the first couple of inches became VERY mild. Beyond
the half way point, a note of burnt toast developed, and the finish became
quite sweet. At 1.5" remaining got ash - abandoned. Burn was straight
throughout. I won't be buying a box.

Ambience: Another tough week at the office. Been looking forward to
this cigar all day. Weather is gray, overcast, with occasional drizzle.
Sitting inside the house at the deck door with a floor fan sucking the smoke
outside. Mariners vs. Red Sox on the tube. (Mariners lost 13-2)

Construction: Nice cap. Fine veins. Mild, slightly spicey aroma. 1/2"
split in wrapper at foot. Even firmness along length

Cut & Prelight: Cut well. Draw tight, pepper on lips. Slightly musty draw
flavor - not objectional.

First third: Initial green nuttiness, fading. Sweet finish. Mild. The
beer overpowers the cigar. Burn very straight. Draw okay. Smoke volume a
little low. Green nuttiness is nearly gone, and the finish has sweetened
more. White compact ash with black lines. Ashed itself at 1.5"

Second third: Green nuttiness is gone. Sweetness in finish has
diminished. Some toastiness has replaced these flavors. A hint of ash?

Third third: Smoke volume better. Some sort of funkiness has entered
here, not really ash, but something else. Burnt toast. Initial bit of
toastiness turns burnt then fades into a sweet finish. At about 1.5" the
burnt toast turned to ash - abandoned it.

Default Review: Nat Sherman Host Selection Hamilton (cigars robusto)

Thanks for the review.

I actually have found that I prefer the larger ringed Host selection. They
are a little more medium in the taste range. I like these alot. The Hobart
is the robusto size(5"x50).
The Hampton is the churchill size(7"x50).
Both of these seem to have the same taste as each other, just different
length of time to smoke. Both are mild to medium in taste, slightly sweet on
the lips. Smooth and creamy all the way to the nub.

I sure am glad there are sooo many different cigars.

Nice review. The teal banded Nat Sherman line (is that what you
smoked?) has some sweet flavoring in the cap glue. Not a bad mild smoke
IMO but not for a box buy.

Do REAL men say "teal"? I know they don't say "mauve".

I looked up "teal" which I thought was blue-green. Boy, was I wrong.
From dictionary.com: "A moderate or dark bluish green to greenish blue".

So, what part of a teal (duck) is teal (color)?

The band (cigar not duck) on the cigar I smoked is red with navy-blue
medallion.

Further investigation yields this band photo - click on the cigar for a
close up: http://www.cigarsinternational.com/p...em=CS-N4&cat=3

My guess is that the photo shows a teal band medallion, but the one on
my cigar is navy-blue. Now I am confused.

One thing I do know is I'm looking forward to bird hunting.

The dark feathers around the neck and the top of the wings on the male
British teal, but there are a bunch of different types of teal>

Possibly the "Metropolitan" line, rather than "Host Selection"

Teal is slightly darker than a sea-greenish color. Nat makes a
teal-colored banded cigar with has some residual sugar flavor in the
cap.

Some day I'll post the time I shared several drinks with Mr. Sherman
(Nat) at the Frier's club in NYC in the late 1970s.

You sent it to me! Looks like it may have been the Angler.

Thanks,
