Default Trip Report: JR Cigars, Statesville, NC (cigar cigars humidor)

This morning, I shoved the whole family into the Giant Wheeled Family
Shoebox of Doom (tm) and rolled up I-77 towards Statesville for the
stated purpose of procuring yet another humidor. Bear in mind that
there's nothing wrong with my current humidors other than that THEY
****, but I just wanted one, so off we went. For the trip up, I pulled
an El Titan de Bronce from the El Crappo humidor (currently at 80%, if
you believe the CrackerJack prize inside the lid). The little Titan made
it through Charlotte, and I kept my nicotine level up with Salems until
we got to Statesville.
Our first look at the JR store in Statesville, and the verdict from the
backseat was "It's half the size of the other one". The 'other one' is
in Selma, NC. Haven't told them about the one in Burlington, yet. I'm
sure they'll find out some time....
And it was,by golly, but the humidor was pretty close to the same size,
with enough different Stuff in it to make the trip worthwhile. While I
was wandering around the humi drinking coffee, smoking an Ult, spending
piles of air money and searching for the magic words that would cause
the Minister of Finance to loosen the purse strings, my cellphone rings.
OK, must be my Beloved Bride, lost in another part of the store. Nope,
it was JJ, in DC, looking for herfing partners. I had to admit to being
400 miles away, but insisted that it was ok, since I was in a cigar
store. He graciously accepted my flimsy excuse.
All told, I liked the JR Cigar store in Statesville. I thought perhaps
the staff wasn't as friendly, but maybe it's just that they don't know
me by sight there. The store seemed neater, but then, the store in Selma
is huge, with wacky amounts of traffic. Won't go back by the Statesville
store again until Spring, but I'll probably stop then. They sell cigars,
you know. :-)

FD-

You had me a little confused there because I knew your AO (area of
operations) was in DC. So, I just wanna know; did you get a humidor
while your were there?? If so; tell us what you got.

I've never been to a JR store before. I have been BY them, but never
THROUGH them. I really want to though. I have been by the one on the
way to Charlotte and the other one on the way to Myrtle Beach.

Sounds like you had fun.

Herf-Guy (Wishing he was IN a walk-in humidor) :-D

Sounds like a fun trip. I've only been to the JR's in Southfield, Mich.
I felt like I'd found the promised land :-)

But did you pick up any 4 for $5 bath towels?

By the way, Jeremy did get in touch with me about 30 minutes after I
woke up today...if all goes well tonight, and I manage to take a nap
during this night shift, I may get together with him during the day
tomorrow.

Damn, a trip to one of JR'S places would be like a pilgrimage to mecca to
me...a regular religious experience.
Of course I'm on my 4th tumbler of Crown Royal, so I deny making any
statements anywhere, at any time.

Craig? That you? That's exactly what Craig said at Born 2 Herf,
referring to Holts. :-)

Default Trip Report: JR Cigars, Statesville, NC (tobacco humidor)

We did have fun. I work in DC (where there is also a JRs), and live in
SC. Yeah, it's a hell of a commute, but it beats living there.

Next time you get the chance, by all means, stop. The Selma store,
especially, is a combination flea market and smoker's paradise. The
guard at the door greets you with a Pall Mall in her mouth. Don't eat
there, there's a Denny's across the parking lot for haute cuisine, and
half a dozen other places within a mile. Also, peruse the Stuff around
the cigarette counter (that takes up half the store's back wall), there
are some really neat things kept along there, just for us nico-junkies.
THEN go in the humidor. Be prepared for a religious experience. The
first time I walked in the Selma humidor, I opened the double door and
the smells of tobacco and coffee just overwhelmed me. I took a deep
breath and said, "Hi, honey, I'm home!"

Ah, forgot to answer your question. No, I didn't buy a humidor. I got
The Look from my bride when I whimpered and pointed at the gigantic
glossy fancy-o-dor that I wanted, and I got the "Uh, Hmmmm" thing when I
dragged her over to the Larranaga humidor, and the blank stare when I
showed her the price tag on the H. Upmann humidor. At this point I gave
up trying to get buy-in. When I get back to DC, I'll just order one and
forget about having *** for a few weeks.
