Default a sad cuban cigar story (cigar cuban tip cohiba)

just wanted to relay my most recent tale of misery...

my parent got back from a 30th aniversary cruise/vacation, so we (the
kids) took them out to dinner. had a nice dinner etc., etc.

after dinner, my dad (a non-cigar smoker) said, "jimbo, i brought back
a little something for you." and gave me a sly smile..

he opened his jacket and pulled out a beautiful yellow and black five
pack of cohiba siglo's. i was very excited, since this would be only
my second time geting to try some ISOMs.

I thanked him profusely, and drove back to gainesville that night. In
the car, i decided to fire one of the siglos up- and that was when my
misery began.

opening the five pack, i became very suspicious when I saw the labels,
the colors seemed a bit faded, just off and not professional looking.
i snipped the tip, which was of "triple cap" construction, but pretty
sloppy.

i managed to smoke almost half of the 'gar, before I couldn't stand it
anymore. ther smoke was hot and burnt my tongue. the taste and odor
was horrendous, a bitter, acrid, downright foul character to it.

i saved the unsmoked half, and did a halfassed dissection on it when I
got to gainesville. just as i expected, it was definitely a short
filler cigar. i sacrificed one other cigar to make sure and it turned
out to be the same....

i havent had the heart to tell my dad that he (we) got ripped off, and
i cringe when i even think how much he spent. when he asked me how
they are, im going to feel pretty guilty lying to him. i'm going to
have to school him up on spotting fakes next time he takes a cruise...

anyways, i figured y'all would be able to feel my pain more than most.
so, please join me in cursing and damning all fake cigar makers and
sellers, and pledge that if you ever meet one, castration will be the
first thing on your mind.

cazart,

jim

I think the same thing has happened to a lot of people... I have been given
"Cuban" cigars by well-meaning people that know that I am a cigar lover. I
accept them with a smile and appreciate the thought... in fact, I even
poseted a little review of a fake Cohiba I was given a little bit ago. Not
nearly as bad as your experience, but not nearly the best cigar I've had
either...

I have a number of friends who going off to the Caribbean tell me that
they're gonna bring me a few cigars. I wholeheartedly discourage them
from wasting their money. Of course their generosity is much
appreciated but why support the fakes? Sorry about your post but you
handled it well.

I tried that tactic once and it was needlessly unkind. The gifter believes
that he did you a favor (which he did, as far as he knows) and expects some
gratitude. Telling him the truth has two effects: It seems ungrateful and it
alerts the gifter of his having been fooled. Neither are good.

So I suggest you just thank him for his kindness and let it go at that.

Do you know which island he purchased from?? Jamaica was full of fakes, but
real ones at the LCDH in Grand Cayman and Cozumel.
