Default A good day to be a guy (fonseca forums)

Ahh, what a wonderful afternoon. My 'rents are out of town, which means the
garage was open to my use. Took my truck home at first to give it a good
wash and detail job, but opted to get some of the little things done
instead. Smoked a 3 year old fonseca 898 on the way out, delicious smoke.
My goal was to give the truck a good tune up, it's about to hit 100K KM so
it's time to do some work. Did the fuel filter, it was the original one. I
guess the owner before me never changed it =/. Next i decided to change the
plugs and wires, but first a beer. Phoned over town trying to find a set of
wires, the only ones i could get were too expensive for my budget, so i'll
have to do those some other time when i can get some cheap Delco's. But on
to the plugs...Holy cow were they were plugs tough to do. FYI the #3 plug
in an 98 era S-10 with the 4.3 Vortec is a total bitch. Fortunately, i used
one of my grandfathers old tools to get the plug out. Finally got it in
with the help of the neighbours, and a few more beers. Smoked a Connie 9
while BSing with the neighbours about guy stuff and drinking beer... on the
ride home, truck ran noticeably smoother. Ahhh, very satisfying thing to
get all dirty, sweaty and fix ones own car. Makes you feel like a real man.
A good afternoon indeed.

Sorry can't resist. F'n POSER..yes POSER JERK!!!! You know the
word. Is it SO hard to at least give them the respect of writing what
they really are? Must you be SO cool and SO hip? (Not sure that's the
right word.) What really keeps you from typing a simple "p"and "a"?
Are you afraid?

Sorry, Fulcrum's a pretty good guy, but I'd love to BITCH SLAP the
everlovinpiss out of him when I read...well just me...nevermind.

I remember from my service station time that there were certain Chevys ( I
can't remember which) where the trick was to use a floor jack and raise the
front corner of the car, and go in through the wheel well. Piece o' cake.

Remends me of the laugh I had at my brother's expense when he dropped
a Ford motor into a Jaguar, then a couple of months later realized
that he'd have to pull the motor (at least 1/2 way) in order to change
*any* of the plugs.

I did that... problem is that the #3 plug was tucked in behind the steering
column. #1 and #5 were okay, and the even ones were a snap... but that #3
plug was brutal. took us two hours. Well, once i found this old off set
box end of my g-pa's it was easy, but until then, whoo man what a pain.

<Snip>

Sounds a lot like my 98 Voyeur Van with a 3.0. I've recently changed
its plugs and got five of one kind, and one of another out of it.
Lazy bastards that changed the plugs before I owned it didn't change
the one under the alternator. I had to run the Van up on ramps and go
up from below and work with my arms jammed up alongside the catalytic
converter to get to the plug.

"Note to self for next time" Catalytic converters get really hot very
quickly and then stay that way for hours.

My last 2 dodge Minivans were the same. To get the back 3 plugs, you
had to release the motor mounts, and roll the engine forward.

Haven't looked on the new one yet, but I am sure it is not designed for
ME to do it... ;-)

The late 60s big block Mustang required unbolting the motor mount and
hoisting the engine to get to one of the plugs... Even worse when you
bolted a set of Hookers in there... You know, headers...

Those were a 91 and a 92. My current van is a 97, and it hasn't had a
tune up yet.

I'll probably have one done at 50,000 just because of the way I beat on
it...
