Default REVIEW: Camacho Corojo Monarca (Warning-Cigar Content to follow, adjust your filters) (cigar cigars)

This is the cigar that Jenn sent me for review. Got it yesterday. Neat
packaging. The purple tissue paper was sooo pretty... ;-)

Size: 5x50
Wrapper: Corojo

I have always loved Camacho Corojo's, so take this all with a grain of
salt... ;-)

The pre-light draw was tight. After lighting, still tight. Not too
bad, but tighter than I am used to with these.

I lit it using a butane flame, so as to not mar the flavor at all.
These do not exhibit any more depth than in years past, but they still
taste about the same. Good. If I were restricted to 3 or 4 cigars,
none Cuban, this would definitely make it.

Amazingly, while tamer than they were on initial release, these still
have a good dose of power, without being harsh.

If you are looking for a good cigar, and you're not a wimp, this is
it... ;-)

Thanks to the Slices, Christian and Born To Herf...

LOL. You think YOU'RE lazy? I am way too lazy to format things the
same way twice, let alone someone else's way... ;-)

Default REVIEW: Camacho Corojo Monarca (cigar robusto)

Jenn was nice enough to send one of these my way, and I just this
weekend got around to smoking it. I was a little nervous about smoking
this after reading everyone else's review and how this cigar supposedly
kicked their collective asses. But, damn it, I swore to review this and
review it I will.

For those who didn't catch it, this is a Honduran filler with a
Honduran wrapper. The Monarca is a robusto size, which made it perfect
to light up for a long stroll down to Fell's Point (where the famed
Homicide was once filmed).

The first thing I noticed about this was that it had a pretty harsh
taste off the first few puffs. That settled down a little, but only a
little, for the rest of the cigar. No question this is a strong cigar.
The ash hung on for dear life until about 1 1/2 inches.

I had a little trouble keeping this burning evenly, but that kind of
thing doesn't bother me all that much.

I'm more troubled by the flavor. I'm not sure how to describe this:
definitely that Honduran taste, but almost like it had been burnt or
overdone a little. In any case, I found this cigar strong flavored but
without much depth to it. Kind of a one- or two-dimensional note. I
don't think I'd pick these up for myself.

Overall, I'd give this a B-, but those are just my personal tastes. I
do appreciate getting a chance to try it, though, so thanks, Jenn!
Also, I want Uncle Grumpy to know that for the price (FREE as long as I
reviewed it on ASC) this was a great deal!!!!

Thanks for the review, Rob. My first one was similar to what you
describe. The second one was _much_ better. Definitely still a
strong flavor and kick, tho. I love those things! :-)

Default REVIEW: Camacho Corojo Monarca (cigar cigars)

A once-great cigar that sadly had its blend changed some years back.
Christian has repeatedly denied this, but I shall always believe it. The
first box of Diplomas I had were awesome. Every other one after that
sucked. I guess this is why most other manufacturers blend their cigars
using crops from five different years or more, but that's another topic...

Rumor has it that Christian will be attending the CigareXpo which is
part of the Western Pennsylvania Cigar Crawl on October 9th. With some
luck, we'll have a chance to herf with him.
