Default Accelerating rest time?

Tim there is a pretty good chance that I am a 'tard so don't pay
attention to what I have to say. any Accelerating drying scares the
hell out of me. I have a theory wood, unless it is say in a kiln with
a very controlled temp can dry to fast etc and cause cracks to form. I
have been in a situation where I have smoked 3 bowls back to back
swabbing the inside and all with no nasty effects, but I think the
capillaries are what soak up the moisture. The old dudes smoked, liked
a billion pipes a day and rotation consisted of "jheez" I am sick of
smoking this pipe So now I will smoke this one for 6 weeks.
So If I am in that situation, I clean the pipe, just like you did,
load and go. But then after you get back from where you was...give it
a little longer drying time.
but like I said I am a 'tard so take it with a grain of salt T

Default Accelerating rest time?

In article <qk5iivsll55kvhki74g919jqmjg24ke2c0@4ax.com>,
DrBlooze1@yahoo.com says...

My only experience with accelerated rest time, didn't work out so
well.First,no laughing.I lived at my parents house when I was still dumb
and unmarried. One winter day I laid my prized GBD on the floor register
to "dry" it.It was a briar calabash in prehistoric with a vulcanite
stem.I forgot all about the darn thing, when I remembered it, the stem had
straightened out and the GBD rondel had melted out and was nowhere to be
seen.Did I feel like a dumbass? Yep I did.I let my pipes rest naturally
now thirty years later.

A while back after I finished a bowl, emptied it and ran cleaners through it, I
took the can of CRC Duster that was on my desk that I use on my keyboard and
blasted the bowl and stem a couple of times. Instead of putting the pipe back
in the rack, I laid it on my desk so I could check it later. I found that it
dried much quicker since the moisture ac***ulated during smoking had been quick
dried a little giving it a head start in drying. I did not try to dry it
completely, but just a few short blasts into the stem and then the bowl. If a
pipe needs drying quickly, this will help.

Heat is bad. I left a straight semi-churchwarden in my car console on a hot
day, I ended up with a full bent semi-shurchwarden...

Enjoy,

Default Accelerating rest time?

A couple days ago, while driving, I smoked a bowl of Edgeworth slice in a
little no-name apple I have. This pipe is usually only good for one bowl
every couple days. But I still had a few hours to drive, and I only had
this one pipe. So here is what I did...

I swabbed out the stem with a pipe cleaner, then stuck the pipe stem first
into the AC vent in my truck, cranked up the AC full blast and let it sit
there for about five minutes. Upon inspection the bowl looked quite dry, so
I rubbed out some more Edgeworth and packed another bowl and set fire to it.
It was a terrific smoke with no sour or bitter taste at all. When the bowl
was finished I did the same thing: pipe cleaner and about another five
minutes stuck in the AC vent. Hmmm.... would it take another bowl? Rubbed
out some more Edgeworth, packed it, lit it, smoked it... this third bowl was
a satisfying smoke but I did begin to notice that it did taste a bit "off".

Has anyone else tried this or a similar technique to "accelerate" your
pipe's rest time?

Tim

Bear mentions that his pipes dry fairly quickly, because he lives in
an area with low humidity. Air conditioners usually double as
dehumidifiers. I would suggest that keeping a real dehumidifier in the
room where your pipe racks are is a good idea, especially in the
winter, when you wouldn't be using AC.

I hear it's not healthy for everyone, but it's one possibility.

IMHO accelerating the rest time will only dry a thin layer in the
bowl, with moist trap in between, I would normally carry a meer as
spare.

This seems to work well for you; so you ought to continue employing such a
clever drying process. I am somewhat concerned that one day you may find that
you cannot fit your stems back into your pipes. Many have reported such
problems when they leave pipes disassembled.
