Dear friends,

I like the taste and especially the smell of vanilla. Can I flavor my
ordinary tobacco with vanilla?

Good days and nights

You CAN do anything you want, but wouldn't it be more efficient to buy it
from the pro's? There have been quite a few nice vanilla blends touted
here over the years. MacBarens Vanilla Cream (or something like that)
springs to mind...

Well, I know you can infuse sugar with vanilla by keeping it in an
airtight container with a vanilla bean. It could be you could jar up a
nice mild tobacco, like a burley, with a couple of vanilla beans and
leave it for a month or two. I know it's not a quick solution, but I try
not to actually ADD anything to my tobacco. This way, you could add the
flavor without affecting the moisture conetnt or smoking properties.

As a matter of fact, I've got a tin of MacB VA#1 that's not busy right
now.... hmmmm

)) Chuck, please reach that tasty MacB and enjoy a bowlful (or
several) of nice smoke. I will try that with a test-amount.

Dear Joe, I'd very much like to buy from the pro's, but there is a
little problem that in my country there is no such thing as a pro or a
retailer. (I live in Istanbul). I'm afraid to buy from online
retailers, because the order comes in 15-30 days minimum and I don't
konw it will be fresh anymore. If I lived there, you could see me
talking to pipe&tobacco experts, learning tobacco recipes, teaching
food recipes

Best regards and respects,

Aydin

Tobacco is typically tinned ir if bulk it is sealed. No reason not to
buy online. By the way, I'll bet you can get some killer meers over
there.

I'll listen to you, Bill. Wisdom who whispers solutions is always
right.. Thank you.

By the way, I read and deduced from the net that some people spray
vanilla extract on the tobacco and let it rest, academically speaking,
what do you think of that?

I would tend to agree with Joe. It's easier just to buy the tobacco
already cased. At least you would know what you're getting. Although
MacBaren's tends to bite me, I have to agree that their Vanilla Cream
tastes wonderful.

I do not care for the idea of spraying the tobacco with vanilla extract,
for the same reason you add vanilla (and other) extracts near the end of
a recipe: Extracts are often made with alcohol, which evaporates,
sometimes taking much of the flavor with it. Not to mention the issue of
adding moisture to your tobacco. Your methods and results may vary, but
this thread has inspired me to stick a vanilla bean in a small jar of
Virginia #1 and wait a while. I'll report my findings.

By the way, you didn't answer Bill. Do you see a lot of meerschaums?

In that case you best buy tins, and let bulk or pouches for what they are.
This does not limit your choice at all.

As far as vanilla flavored tobaccoes go, I would get some Danish Black
Vanilla (by Planta Tabak).

Just my $.02

Yes, my friends. I apologize, I couldn't at first understand "meer"
Yes, the meerschaum is native to our country, and the best crafted and
best quality ones are made in Turkey.
There are some thrustworthy online dealers here. Or if you come to
Istanbul or Eskisehir, you can purchase from the Misir Carsisi
(Touristic Gallery Bazaar).
Meerschaums really smoke nice.

Wait a sec, I will find some Turkish links who sell professional
meerschaums overseas with nice cases and in every size... As far as I
know, these places sell real and quality meerschaums.
