Default I'm done, I feel better

Ed, your thread has brought a grin while I'm thinking of having gone
through the same process, let's see know, yup, at least 3 times.

When I found myself with over 200 pipes I adopted the same attitude
you now have and vowed to whittle that number down to the best 30. I
came close ending up with 45 or so that I just couldn't part with.
That was the first time.

Since then, I've abandoned all hopes of ever curing PAD. I see it, I
like it, I buy it, I know I'm a sick man, but I've gotten use to it.
I've taken to attending pipe shows and sell off a bunch at least twice
a year. Selling at a show is a lot more fun than Ebay and since I end
up with some cash, and there are all those pipes available I get to
start the whole process over before ever leaving the show! Isn't this
a great hobby!

Hey - let me know when you purge - I'm getting desperate for another
pipe...chills, sweats, shaking so bad I can't type. <g>

Feed My Addiction

Test My Resolve

<g>

I've had a full feeling come over me the last week or so. I have
reached my pipe limit. The PAD that took over my life for the last
year or so moving me to acquire over 60 pipes on ebay has abated. I
think it was just simply the tipping point of mass that pushed me onto
the road to recovery. I have ordered 50 free pipe-sized priority mail
boxes from the USPS and I've started taking photos for the sell-a-thon
on ebay.

My plan now is to cut the harem down to an even dozen and be done with
it. I'm going to have to find something else to do with my evenings as
ebay no longer calls to me. I may even talk with my wife, but I'm
hoping I don't get that desperate-- I'm just leaving all options open.
<g>

It was really a lot of fun. I loved getting a good deal on a smoked to
death piece of wood with a badly scorched rim and then getting it back
into shape. Some took completely striping down to the bare wood,
others took 8 salt treatments, but most I was able to whip into
submission (a couple got the best of me, must have been Erinmore).
Looking back it was a great time sink. I probably burned about a grand
and I will probably be able to salvage about a $800 back or I may get
lucky and beat a grand on selling them.

I might try a high grade or two after I sell out the bulk, but right
now I am just not interested in buying or trading for any pipe. I just
feel pipe-gorged.

I realize that there is no real cure for PAD and it could come back at
any time, but right now I'm just going to try to enjoy being in
remission.

I will report back to you on life on the other side.
Kind regards,
Ed

I'm the same way Ed. I finally settled on having one of every pipe shape I
thought was pleasing to look at and comfortable to hold. Still have a few
that need to go ... that darn 4-paneled stanwell horn just doesn't serve my
gorilla sized hand at all and is most likely next on the 'to-go' list. Just
not quite yet ........

Smoke a pipe as long as you control when it gets smoked. When the pipe
calls out to you more than you call out to it, step away for a while. This
applies to all things. Live your life, don't live for the things in it.
