Default Krumble Kake from Smoker Haven

I just fired up my first bowl of Krumble Kake from Smoker's Haven. I
am using a freshly cleaned meer so I can get the best possible tasting
experince.

The first thing I noticed upon the first charing light was the
distinct aroma of latakia. Unlike some other blends containing this
foul weed, it's not over powering when smoked. In fact, it's quite
pleasant. No bite whatsoever.

It burns slow...real slow...and clean.

This could easily become my favorite latakia blend.

Is this Krumble Kake by Germain and Son? That would make it the same thing
as Esoterica Penzance, one of my absolute favorite Latakia blends (along
with Esoterica Margate).

It's made in Great Britain for Smoker's Haven, but I don't know who
makes it. It doesn't say on the tin.

Sorry to highjack, but Fred, are you saying that Krumble Kake and
Penzance are the same? This would explain a lot, as I recently rec'd a
sample of KK from Premel, (thanks!), and it smells very similar. And
while I'm here, I'll be darned if the tin of Penzance doesn't smell
exactly like the tin of Margate!

Is it just me?

The two blends are similar, but not the same. While both are, I believe,
made by Germain the Penzance has a much higher latakia content. There are
probably other differences, but the latakia is the one the is the most
obvious.

Thanks, Barry, I appreciate it. I'm new to latakia, so I'm still
learning. And how do these compare to Germain's Krumble Kake in how
they're made and smoke, if you please?

Any relation to Gina Gershon?

First, if the Krumble Kake is manufactured by Germain & Son on the British
isle of Jersey, then it is indeed one and the same with Esoterica Penzance.
Secondly, Margate and Penzance are quite similar as Barry pointed out. The
cut is quite different - Penzance being a pressed flake while Margate is
more ribbon and cube cut mix (I'm estimating). Oddly, though, I had heard
that Margate had more Latakia than Penzance. In any event, one of my
favorite smokes is to place alternating layers of the two in a bowl and
appreciate the subtle fluctuation between smokier and sweeter as the bowl
progresses.

(snippage)

Why must it be the same? Cannot it be similar; but with less Latakia as another
poster has suggested?

What I am saying is that Germain and Son manufacturers Krumble Kake in the
UK. That exact product is imported by Mike Butera under the Esoterica
Tobacciana label as Penzance. So if the Krumble Kake that Smokers Haven is
selling has been manufactured by Germain and Son. it wouuld seem unlikely
that G&S would allow a different blend of theirs be sold under the name
Krumble Kake. Therefore, Smokers Haven Krumble Kake = Esoterica Penzance.
Again, I am just following a logical extension here and not claiming I
currently know anything about Smokers Haven Krumble Kake.
