Great News!

The United Pipe Clubs of America, a federation of American pipe smoking
clubs has been accepted as a member of the Committee of International
Pipe Clubs. This accomplishes the first goal of UPCA, to get the US
recognized by this august international organization.

Our second goal, competing in international competitions, appears to be
a reality as well. UPCA will be sending a team to the World Cup
Championships in Barcelona, Spain, the beginning of October. The team
will be entered as the US UPCA Team.

Team members at this time are Vernon Vig (UPCA President), Dennis Moore
(UPCA National Pipe Smoking Champion) and Jeff Weiner (Florida, 5th
place, National Pipe Smoking Contest).

We are working on achieving a 3rd goal, sponsoring the National Champion
expenses to compete (approx. $1000). We are about half-way there at
this time. If anyone would like to contribute to the travel fund and
support the National Champion, please e-mail me privately at
pipes@unitedpipeclubs.org for information.
