Default Review: Cohiba Siglo I (punch cigar)

Cohiba Siglo I
November 96 - JM
4x40
Filler - Cuba, Binder - Cuba, Wrapper - Cuba

When I slid the cover of the cabinet open a full frontal assault of cedar
hit me head on, and the lovely scent clung to the stick. Beautiful caramel
colored wrapper with no blemishes and almost invisible veins. One small fold
marred an otherwise perfect cigar. The triple cap was deep, even, and
artfully applied. It had a great springy feel and the pre light taste and
aroma are to die for. The trademark Cohiba band slid off smoothly with no
resistance.

Clipped deeply and cleanly, and sparked easily with an amazing amount of
smoke. Damn! Hard to believe so much smoke could have fit in such a small
package! Gallons of mellow, mouth filling smoke billowed forth. Spicy yet
refined, the cedar flavor is forward and lovely. A dark gray ash followed
the inky black burn ring and clung tightly for two solid inches. The finish
was smooth and satisfying with a noticeable mellow cedar tone.

Enjoyed on the porch with a nice strong double shot of espresso in the light
rain, this cigar was very forward in its presentation. Complex notes of
heather, coffee, leather, and of course cedar frolicked in the medium bodied
taste. Light blue smoke curled from the lit end and the huge clouds of smoke
that issued from each puff had a nice beige tint to them. A stately five
point (western count) buck stood and watched as I savored the experience of
this smallest of the Siglo line. He seemed to enjoy the experience as much
as I did.

Overall this was an amazingly powerful cigar for being so well aged and such
a small vitola. The balanced flavor was never too strong, but packed an
incredible punch. If this cigar was any bigger I fear I would have gotten
the dreaded Cuban flu from it. As it was I had a lovely 30 minutes of
heavenly smoking pleasure and a nice lingering finish that smacked of well
aged cedar smoothness. Highly recommended!

Appearance: 9/10

Flavor: 18/20
Finish: 9/10
Smoking experience: 18/20

Thanks for the review. That's an interesting rating system. :0)

I've yet to try these. I've heard as you stated, that they are indeed
very strong. Box price: 160.00

I love them too, it's a real little powerhouse but at the same time smooth
and very enjoyable.

Interesting how he weights these...I take it "Construction" includes burn
and draw, which, for me, would warrant at least 15 or 20 points possible;
"Finish," "Smoking Experience," and "Overall Impression" are no doubt
subjective and somewhat vague...perhaps even redundant. I'd be more
inclined to weight it:

Appearance: 10 pts.
Draw: 10 pts.
Burn: 10 pts.
Flavor: 40 pts.
Aroma: 10 pts.
Misc. (nic kick, ash, etc...) 20 pts.

He discovered KDT's. Nice short smoke at less than 1/2 the price.

LOL I gravitated toward the RASCC, KDT's, and a few other short
smokes........ 1/2 the price or less. But then again, my Sig1's were
never 8 years old I still enjoy an occasional IV though.
