Default tupperdor -- what did i do wrong

After reading the responses to a previous post -- I decided to make a
tupperdor. It wasnt difficult -- however, the empty tupperdor's RH is
between 75%-80% after a couple of hours. (The hygrometer is correct as
I used the salt test to calibrate). Why is it so high.

I have a two-gallon rubbermaid airtight container. I have placed a
piece of wet floral oasis foam in a smaller circular plastic container
-- about the size of a 1/4 pound hamburger. I trimmed it to about
fit loosely into the conatin and its about 1/2 inch thick.

I then moistened it with a pre-mixed propelyne glycol solution i
purchased at JR's. (I am having difficulty finding the real thing).
I put it in the container and sealed for a couple of hours.

What should i do to get it to the correct RH?

Default tupperdor -- what did i do wrong (humidor)

The oasis will take some time to "stabilize". The PG will migrate
to form a "skin". Until then, it will spike high. I keep extra
humidifiers so that I can charge them, let them stabilize, and then
just replace the one in the humidor.

This spike effect is another reason why it is good to have a nearly
full humidor, or lots of wood, to help buffer the high output until it
stabilizes.

Default tupperdor -- what did i do wrong (cigars humidor)

How long does this "stabilization" process tend to take? Just trying
to figure it out so I can get my cigars out of my "not-so-good"
humidor.

In my experience about 3-4 days.

Your problem is the polar opposite of those with wooden humidors
that are not keeping a high enough RH. Wood often does not seal tight
enough, whilst your tupperdor is virtually air-tight.

If your house RH is lower, (and I hope to god it should be), simply
crack the top of it and let some air in to stabilize things.
