Quote of the day 8/08/06
He thinks it takes courage to make science subordinate to politics, thereby angering the
science community. He's not the only one, others are doing it with global warming, acid
rain, endangered species, stem cell research, etc.
Selling out doesn't take courage. Standing up for what's right takes courage.
He spent formative years winning science competitions. In the nerd community, the word
"geek" is a compliment rather than an insult.
The hair makes him look liike Dilbert's boss. He can't be that stupid else he wouldn't
have made it through Stanford Engineering, but lack of ethics and concern about people
(sociopathology) are in concord with Dilbert's boss.
Glantz is a heart expert. He knows nothing about lung disorders. Yet he talks about them
under color of being professor of medicine. The unknowing, like Paul, think MDs are the
authorities on all things related to health. When it comes to research, MDs are
notoriously bad at it. Researchers are supposed to be sceptics; MDs are trained to follow
established procedure without question. Most good research is done by microbiologists,
chemists, and even engineers like Glantz. There's nothing wrong with Glantz working on
cardiology, but when he goes into pulminary, he's out of his expertise.
