hello all, new poster here…
I am an occasional cigar smoker, looking for some recommendations
from the more experienced members here. Some cigars I particularly
liked were the ashton monarch tube and the davidoff #2 tube, I guess my
tastes lean toward the mild! I have tried some fuller-bodied sticks but
didn’t like them all that much. I also have a couple of macanudo gold
labels, some arturo fuente 858 and chateau fuente and a couple of other
ashtons that I forget the name… can anyone recommend me something to
try similar to the davidoff or the ashton monarch? I’m trying to stick
to the $3-7 range, (preferably toward the $3 end!) Another aspect is the
room note – I wanted to make at least some gesture of consideration for
the wife 🙂 she really liked the smell of the davidoff (if I had
unlimited $$ I would jsut buy a box of ’em but at $13 a pop it’s a bit
out of my range!!!) I rarely see people on this NG discussing cigar
room notes (as opposed to ASP where it is common topic) what cigars do
you think have nice room aroma as well as flavor? Anyway, sorry for
rambling – looking forward to hearing from y’all!

Looking forward to your posts! Any of the regular Fuente products
should work for you as well as the Partagas regular line, or The
Griffins, but this is all part of the learning experience. If you like
Macanudos, there is a 2nd of the brand called Old Fashioned that many
folks like. Never paid much attention to room aroma, as most of my
smoking is done outside.

My Dad likes the Flor de Oliva Grand Cameroon as somewhat mild reasonably
priced smoke. By the box, under 3 bucks a stick.
He also smokes the Monte regular #3 DR which by the box comes to under 5 a
The Monte definitely fits the bill as a great room aroma cigar…and I think
the Ashton and the Davidoff tend to fit that bill as well but fall outside
the price guidelines.
Also, you may try something with a little more oomph, perhaps the regular
line LGC. Also under 3-4 a stick for most of their sizes when bought by the
It’s been many moons since I smoked one but the Temple Hall also was a nice
mild smoke which tended to have a nice room aroma.
I find as a rule that a maduro has better room aroma than not, but that is
my rule, no one elses:)
looking forward to your posts.

What everyone else has said … plus I think Dunhills are a nice mild
smoke. The construction is usually exquisite. A real pleasure
especially for beginners.

Hey StrongBad. Welcome to ASC. I’m a big fan of yours:
As for Cigars that give off some good aromas, I’d say the Mayorga coffee
infused always draws compliments. My wife liked the aroma of the
Excalibur Maduros and the guys at work think that my La Veija Habanas
smell the best.

You might want to go to your local tobacconist and try some bundle
smokes at around $1-2/stick. These are generally quite mild.
