Hi everybody!
I'm trying to install Acrobat Reader 6+ on a Windows98SE, Firefox 1.0.6 (now 1.0.7) machine and it is giving me a headache. Can anyone advise what I might be doing wrong or if there is a better way to get the reader? 1) I visit the Adobe.com page and click on the "Get Acrobat Reader" link in the lower left of the main page. 2) In Step 1 of 2 I select the OS (W98SE) and click on "Continue". 3) In Step 2 of 2 I see that it wants me to download Acrobat Reader 6.0.1 as being the latest (I thought 7 was the latest?). 4) I de-select the Adobe Yahoo! toolbar download. 5) I click on the "Download" button. 6) I get an installer downloading to the desktop. (Up to this point everything is normal and as expected.) After the file has downloaded (20 minutes on shared ISDN 128) it gets to 99% complete before an error message appears "The downloaded file is corrupted. Please try again later." This has now happened eight times. Always the exact same error. I have attempted waiting a few hours and even days but this doesn't seem to be "later" enough. Our network is fine. I have 15+ years computer experience. There is no Firewall or Proxy interference. Never in my life had a problem downloading anything. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong or is there a better way to obtain this file? I am totally at a loss. We apparently need reader 6+ for a postal software tool and our full version of Acrobat 5.0 (reader and distiller) just won't cut it. The Adobe forums have no listings for this issue. Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions. - Sheldon --- J&M Coin & Jewellery Ltd. --- We buy, sell, and trade all coins, jewellery, bullion, diamonds and foreign exchange 127 E. FWIW, I have just learned from the Adobe forums that my downloading and
installation problem results from the simple fact that I do not use M$'s insecure IE browser therefore I am not allowed to download the Reader software. How nice. Just following up in case others are experiencing this issue. - Sheldon, now seeking an alternative to Acrobat Reader --- J&M Coin & Jewellery Ltd. --- We buy, sell, and trade all coins, jewellery, bullion, diamonds and foreign exchange 127 E.
