How to Make Acrobat Reader 6.0 Load Faster on Win XP
I am running Windows XP SP1 on a stand-alone machine with a four year old 1.0 GHz AMD Athelon Processor, 700 MB Memory (133 MHz). So, it's not the fastest system around, but it's not slow, either.
The problem is that whenever I launch the Free Acrobat 6.0.1 Reader, it takes over 2 minutes to load. The only place I found a suggestion was at a blog, "http://www.russellbeattie.com/notebook/1004695.html"
It said to move all the plug_ins to a folder called '~/reader/optional' except: EWH32.api, printme.api, & Search5.api. So, I tried it, but it still takes about 2 minutes to load a .pdf file.
I would greatly appreciate any ideas on this issue, but I would especially appreciate it if one of the Adobe folks would post a solution here and in the FAQ for others to use. It would be extremely helpful for all of us.
Thanks alot,
AMLF
