Default text search LOCKS UP!

running acrobat reader v8; but I've had this problem with ALL versions
since 6.
I've had this problem on win98, win2k, and winXP.

This is a common occurrence - it happens frequently.

I try to do a text search on a PDF, and the search simply NEVER
FINISHES!!!
This is extremely frustrating. When this happens I usually open the
PDF under acrobat reader v5, and i can search OK. I'm tired of doing
this.

as an example - this document:
http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/part...whitepaper.pdf

if I try running a search, the search goes to page 10 of 41, and
simply hangs. it NEVER recovers, or shows me any hits. I'm really
curious to know how a simple search can get so screwed up....

Failing that -
I'm beginning to think that maybe there's a third party PDF reader,
that doesn't have so much "bloat" in it, that might work better - or -
simply work. Does anyone know what one of these might be?

TIA - Bob

If you would like to try an outstanding PDF Reader/Viewer give PDF Xchange
Viewer a try;

http://www.docu-track.com/

There are two versions; Free and the Pro version at a modest cost.

I'm not having any problem with searches using Acroread 7 or Foxit. I
suspect there's a corrupted DLL that's somehow spanned those operating
systems that's called by Acro. (Have you done OS "updates" on the same
box? Not a good idea...)

See if PDF exchange or Foxit Reader have the same problem.

TX to both Don & Bob P;

I will certainly try your recommendations....
Frankly I would love nothing more than to rip the adobe-bloat-reader
off my system forever! ;-)
